    The AIAT runs AW or AX mags. You will not have trouble fitting a .243 with any bullet. I am on my second .243 barrel, running a post '14 AX. The 105s hybrids are hard to beat, but have ran 115 DTACs and 110SMK with great success.

    Which cartridge for 7mm 180gr ScenarL (ELR)

    I shoot a 7-300WM. I previously had a hunting rifle in .300WM that I had rebarreled to 7mm, having brass and dies made the caliber descision pretty easy. I use Redding neck bushing dies to size necks from .30 to 7mm in a couple of steps. Trying to neck down in one step tends to crush cases here...

    Range finder first and use a cheaper phone app.. A kestrel won't help much if you don't know the range to your target, not everyone shoots at a static range..

    I suggest rebarreling to the .25-06. It's a terrific deer cartridge. Why not?? It's a proven hunting round and it sounds like you just got a crap barrel. You have stated several reasons to keep it a .25-06, targeted game, hunting rifle, the .25 vacancy in your line-up,....

    My MWS has a 16" chrome lined barrel and I have found it to be very accurate-1/2"@100yds. These are my loads I have worked up in my rifle, I suggest working up your own loads starting below my charge weights. 168A-max load is 42.5gr of Varget, Federal case, Fed 210M 168SMK load is 43gr IMR 8208...

    Take a look at the 7mm-300WM, or 7mmPractical. I'm running the 7-300WM and couldn't be happier. I don't shoot it tons as its a hunting rifle, but it seems to fit your criteria very well. Easy to neck down 300WM brass and easy to find a load. Run the numbers for a 180Hybrid running 3100fps.

    Hunting & Fishing 12ga vs 20ga on pheasant and chukar

    I have found that the 20 is a bit light for the wild pheasants I hunt in KS. I perfer to run a 12, no substitute for pellets and powder. Also, a pen raised bird's toughness can't hold a candle to wild roosters.

    Great bull! This year was my first elk hunt as well, unfortunately I came home empty handed. I learned I'm not a muzzleloader guy…. Congrats Painless! avluey- :)
