M40A1 USMC spec clip slot drawing.

Ok, so I have good news and bad news. The good news is I have the actual PWS clip slot Machinist drawings from the M40A1 build guide from the 1990's. I found it at the National Archives. The bad news is I gave my word I will not share the actual drawing. So if you have a question on a...

    group by on M40a1 barrels

A funny note on the rough finish. It actually predates the Schneider barrels by over 20 years. The neat thing from searching in the archives you see the same stuff just over and over. On the rough finish on the barrels. The first time I've saw the Marines request the barrels to have a...

    group by on M40a1 barrels

Just to add a little context. Frank's measurement of .875 +/- .010 is exactly the Marine Corps specs from their M40A1 blueprints I pulled from the archives. The blueprints of the barrel are dated 1999. By then the Marines were installing Schneiders on the M40A1. I do have a original M40A1...

    "Dads" M1

That is an awesome story and what a testament to a son's love for his father. I have to admit it really touched me as I hope my own boys will think that much about me. You are a good son sir and I know your father is looking down on you smiling. :)

Hunting for a repo M40 walnut stock (my Beaver156 repo stock got slightly damaged)

I freaking love you Ryan. lol But no you guys are all right. Remington made them in house for the M40 and put them on the M40 stock. The Wichitia's did not come around till the M40A1. It actually details the specs, and finishes for them in the original Remington M40 Contract. Then they...

Hunting for a repo M40 walnut stock (my Beaver156 repo stock got slightly damaged)

Yeah glue, clamp, and run some brass pins in there and it would be stronger than the rest of the stock. I would not hesitate to fix that and would not be afraid of it at all. It def could serve till another Ebay listing pops up.

    M40A1 repo mounts and rings

This looks really good. I'm excited to put this up against a real mount and compare the two.

    Early vs. Late M40A1's

I've never seen a J loc mentioned in the Marine Docs. Likewise I've never seen one on M40a1 I have torn apart. I really don't think they were used.

    Early vs. Late M40A1's

1650 was sold by the CMP as well. It looks pretty much like a fresh rebuild with the USO mod. It's so neat to actually tie these serials to a rifle. https://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=3529&n=USMC-10X-Unertl-Sniper-Telescope-1650

    Early vs. Late M40A1's

This is what I find is incredible Skunk. Your scope 1114, was sold by the CMP in 2017. I love anytime I can identify a rifle or scope serial while in service. Especially when you can identify where they were used or who used them! Here's when your scope was sold, I wonder who owns it now...

    Early vs. Late M40A1's

Most of the pics that you look at of the A1's till the mid 90's have the short shroud. But I would never just classify one or the other as really being correct. If a part was serviceable it continued to be used. If it was worn it was replaced. A lot of M40A1's were rebuilt multiple times...

M40 sling swivel build, a ask for help

McMillian is now the dealer of them. I know I talked to them a while back and they said they were using all the ones made for a while for the new smears coming out. But once they catch up on the smears, they would offer the Wichita's loose for sale. This was a several months back, I don't...

M40 sling swivel build, a ask for help

Just to make sure, I pulled out an original USMC M40 wood stock that was on serial 221442. I measured both swivels and noticed there are slight variances in the bend. Maybe that is why the original Remington drawing only shows the measurement from the inside of the loop? They were probably...

M40 sling swivel build, a ask for help

If you are talking about a mention on the Facebook m40 group it was probably me who said it. I found them buried at the Archives and at some point they will likely be released, but it might be a little while yet.

M40 sling swivel build, a ask for help

These are the measurements off the original drawings. Both are measured on the inside of the loop. So not on the outside but the actual inside measurements. It is 1.50 wide and .380 tall on the inside. The shaft as Kft101 said is 7/32-40 and I show .557 tall. I would measure mine before...

Help ID post 64 M70 trigger guard for m40a1

Skunk is spot on in his assessment. Finding an original steel set is really hard. Then you have to pay someone to modify them unless you are good at that stuff. Honestly I am not a huge fan of the PTG after some of the stories I heard, but they do make a set of repo bottom metal that is...

    1903A1 USMC Clone Questions

I have never seen any safety issue on why they could not be used. My guess is it's just because Mark I's were never built into snipers. So maybe they were basing the decision on a historical reason not to use them.

    1903A1 USMC Clone Questions

I've never seen the 1941 name used by the Marines. It seems we as collectors have created that name for these rifles. Pretty much the Marines just nicknamed them a 1903 Sniper, or 1903 with telescopic sight. Which meant they often confused them with the other 1903 Sniper variants the Marines...
