    I do a lot of shooting with a .250 savage bolt gun. I shoot flat base 87 and 100 g softpoints. very soft shooting rifle, great for deer. I consider its practical range on whitetail to be around 200 yds for these projectiles.

    how much do you want to spend? Try the Federal "Premium" loaded with the 165 sierra game king. it would honestly be a lot harder for you to find a factory .308 loading that is bad for deer than to find one that's good for deer.

    interesting idea ... I think it could be done if you'd hog the barrel channel out. the issue is, as stated above, balance. you'd either have to chop the length way down, or reduce the contour. how much you'd have to reduce the barrel length to get decent balance, I don't know
