    Best varmint rifle from factory?

dkilla: I like the laminate stock on that rifle. Boyds or Remington factory take-off of a VLS?

    Building up a XCR...

if you're gonna be using it as a hunting rifle mainly, I think you're gonna be quite pleased with it as-is. I think you made a good choice on the scope, too. It will probably have the 40-x trigger and you might want to adjust the pull weight down on it from the factory setting. also, not sure...

    B&C M40 stock for an AAC-SD. .308

you'll see both the 45 and the 65 numbers if you surf the internets enough. if it were mine I would back it out to 45, but that's just my opinion. I haven't seen going over 45 on a factory sendero, 700P, or savage in a B&C to offer any sort of accuracy advantage.

    #1 of 20 McMillan Commemorative M40A1...Thoughts?

I think its flat out awesome. $7,600 seems high at 1st blush, but that includes the scope, mounts, extry return stock, etc.

    General Question

Not to dissuade you from the .300 win mag, but like these ppl are saying, there are a number of projectiles that your 1-12" will spin that will get on out there to 1000 yds. I've got a .300 win mag and a .308. If I had to keep one, it would be the .308. I would not get rid of the .308 to get...

    B&C M40 stock for an AAC-SD. .308

45 in/lbs for me. I would suggest that you may not want to go any more gung ho than that with the factory bottom metal in there someone else may tell you differently, but I wouldn't be too keen on taking a brass hammer to the recoil lug of your rifle.

All around non-custom, base rifle - recommendations

    Rifles: Salvage Hawg Hunter - $425ish + B&C Stock - $260ish = $685ish Remington SPS Tac or AAC-SD - $650ish + B&C Stock - $260ish = $910ish Remington 700P - $900-950ish Remington 5r - $1100ish I prefer the 20" barrel on a gun that's actually going to be toted anywhere.

    "Budget Rifle"

it was a bit tongue-in-cheek. the 1-holers are fun to shoot and see, but I'm more impressed by a rifle that is still shooting sub-MOA even with a hot barrel after many shots fired

    Accuracy Question, 700 Tactical .223 with M223

That's what I'd do too. If you and the rifle are shooting the consistent MOA that you're showing, it's time to do some work. have some fun with the thing. Nothing wrong with benchrest shooting and chasing those groups, if that's what you want to do. You're just gonna have to dump some money...

Typical number of rounds you shoot on range day

I'd say 80-100 centerfire rifle. rimfire rifle another 50-100. I usually bring 3-5 centerfire rifles, 20 rounds or so per rifle, + 1 rimfire with 2 boxes of ammo. usual range trip is 3-4 hrs. I live in the south, so barrel heat is a real issue. end up continuously cycling through all the...

    "Budget Rifle"

ha, no doubt. I had no idea the furor that the 10 shot group would cause, the post was really supposed to be about the hawg hunter being a halfway decent little shooter. I'll be sure to post the more select groups next time ...

    "Budget Rifle"

Thanks for that tip. These aren't even target bullets, they are the 64 g bonded noslers. I noticed the long throat as well. I was actually very pleased that this thing was throwing 5 into 3/4", repeatedly, without any load development at all. I thought about giving the 69 SMK's a try, but...

    "Budget Rifle"

ha ... you never know what kind of responses you're gonna get on these threads. I was pretty happy with the 10 shot group, especially considering the brisk pace of the shooting. From what I've seen, most people think a 700P is typically a .5-.75 MOA shooter, OOTB. This one is par for the...

    "Budget Rifle"

The "budget rifle" question comes up over and over again ... I thought I'd share what I have done. This is a savage hawg hunter in .223. Rifle was right around $400. chunked the iron sights, adjusted the trigger down to 2.25 lbs, placed it in a B&C stock (drop-in fit). Total cost about...
