    Barrel length?

Re: Barrel length? I saw no change in velocity when I recently chopped a marlin from 22" to 16". I understand the concept that a shorter barrel with alter harmonics but on an OEM barrel I feel bedding and ammo selection would have more affect on potential accuracy.

Re: New bedding project Proper prep is the key and it looks like it is nicely covered. What bipod is that, looks like a nice wide footprint.

    270 Win Powder and Bullets?

Re: 270 Win Powder and Bullets? I like H4350 or Ramshot to run 110gr bullets at 3400fps. I use the Barnes 110TTSX for big game and switch to the Hornady 110 Vmax for practice. Both show a field BC of about .369 and shoot over lapping groups out to 600yards. I have tried to stretch it further...

    New toy is kicking azz

Re: New toy is kicking azz Grip is just textured Decvon 10110. Some use marine tex but it seems to lay down a bit more, I like the sharp spikes I get using a kitchen sponge. Dont bother with any devcon you can get in a tube at the hardware store or JB weld, both will lay down flat with no...

Gunsmithing Cerakote on gun stock....Not Good idea?????

Re: Cerakote on gun stock....Not Good idea????? I have preped and sprayed two BC light tacticals with air cure cerakote and have not had any noticeable issues. One I just chemically cleaned and the other I blasted with AO because I was trying to create a little depth to the texture to take...

    New toy is kicking azz

Re: New toy is kicking azz This is the best image I can get. I just cleaned it up and hit it with more krylon since its getting shipped to the mainland and Hawaii can rust stuff overnight. The fine circle you can see around the crown is the first layer of krylon, when shot it left a nice...

    New toy is kicking azz

Started out as a basic blued, synthetic stock XT-22 and then the fun started. Everything looked pretty good from the factory, clean lines, barrel centered in the channel and a 3.5lb trigger pull. Accuracy at 50yards hung a little over or under 1" with a variety of high speed and subsonic ammo...

upgrade the 581s, or get a cz, or get a savage?

Re: upgrade the 581s, or get a cz, or get a savage? The stock could have gone much quicker if I had just fired up all the tools and gone after it. Even if you botch something a little bondo will clean it all up. If I did it again I would start with a square blank and do the inletting first...

    Photos Campfire Camo

Re: Campfire Camo Campfire camo originated on the 24hourcampfire.com a few years ago and mcmillan has had it as an available option for quite some time. They also had several posters come up with a combo called the "coyote bomber" for the swirleys and its a great looking desert pattern.

    aqua man lungs

Re: aqua man lungs I was just camping last weekend and one of the dads said he was a free diver and could easily go 5 minutes with no strain. Of course we all called bullshit and the dude jumped in the water and with about 15seconds of prep he went down for over 6 minutes. Quite humbling when...

    Chiroprators?

Re: Chiroprators? I see it as a preventative maintenance to maximize performance. We get out actions trued so they are properly aligned why not follow that for out body? I have used many chiro over the years and have had mixed results. At first I balked at the concepts of stuff like ear...

upgrade the 581s, or get a cz, or get a savage?

Re: upgrade the 581s, or get a cz, or get a savage? I liked working on mine but it was a labor of love turning my first rifle into a full size trainer to match the BC light tactical my .243. Only power tools used were the jig saw for the raw cut out and a screwgun to lock all the layers...

Hunting & Fishing Ted Nugent plead guilty to illegal bear hunt

Re: Ted Nugent plead guilty to illegal bear hunt How much of Teds behavior is simply an act at self promotion or playing to his particular audience? Is his NRA rant (I have not seen the whole thing) based on what he thought they wanted to hear? I do have pretty good knowledge on the...

    Recommend 22LR ammo?

Re: Recommend 22LR ammo? For lower priced ammo the Winchester 38gr Subsonic HP has done very well. Thinking about grabbing a case when I can find a good price on it. It tears up the mongoose pretty well so Im guessing it will work on squirrels too.

Silicone grease as an ammo lube

Re: Silicone grease as an ammo lube You mentioned moly but has anyone used the Ms. Moly spray? The best part was it came with a little foam block that allowed you to slip in 50 rounds with just the bullets sticking up then you sprayed on four sides and were done. The coating was dry after...

    Gunsmithing cerakote

Re: cerakote I was also advised that heating the air cure just flashes everything off and gets to maximum hardness sooner but still not as hard as the heat cure. In regards to chemical resistance it seems that the heat helps quite a bit.

    Marlin problems

Re: Marlin problems I dont have a clear favorite on ammo and I have to get whatever I can here in Hawaii. The winchester subsonic HP and the CCI sub HP have both been very consistent. On the next range trip I will play with settings using the same ammo and see if I can duplicate anything...
