    shooting without a rear bag

We have a course of fire for our monthly matches that mandate "no artificial rear support" and run it 3x a year. I use a simple leather work glove and make a fist for rear support, expanding and contracting my fist to fine tune. I've shot some of my tightest groups with this set up. With...

How do I adjust my eye relief on these rings?

You could flip the rear base 180degree but that won't help you on the front. Those are weaver bases, and it looks like there is only one slot in the front base, so you are stuck with on spot for the ring. Go a head and spin those dials and take the scope off and you'll see. That being...

Is my velocity that far off?

Just to echo everyone else - you are jumping into the deep end of the pool. Do as much as you can with solid distances inside 600 yards and that should really give you good dope that you can carry out to 1k. When you do shoot at 1k, get a 6 foot x 6 foot piece of cardboard and a good aiming...

Rifle Scopes Optics and mounting opinions

Just order from Seekins directly. Or, the Vortex alloy rings are that same thing and can had at any of the large vendors.

Which seating stem to I need / have?

I've heard that trick before and have been meaning to try it. Can't seem to load consistently straight ammo. But I am a firm believer of it mattering a lot. I've been "straightening" the high run out ammo and ever since then, my groups have shrunk and my water line at 800, 900 and 1k is all...

Handgun question as related to tac matches...

I've only shot a couple of pistol stages in matches, but what I failed to consider in practice was that my rifle would be slung up while shooting the pistol. That changes things a bit.

    Rifle Scopes SFP question

You wrote "can I dial holds at any elevation". Which is an oxymoron....you either dial or hold over. Not both. That's OK as you are new, but using the correct language will get you better answers. If you dial, the magnification does not matter on a SFP. If you plan on holding over, the power...

Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor HD 4.5-27x56mm Gen II T&E Report

OK - Just got mine today and it's all that it appears to be. But I didn't get a cool tool, just a crummy allen wrench. Should be mounted and shooting by Friday and shooting our September paper match, September Surefire match and our September steel match

Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor HD 4.5-27x56mm Gen II T&E Report

Mine's coming on Tuesday - I totally missed the fact that they changed tube size to 34MM with the Gen II until I read this. Very smart move - One of the reason I was hesitant to buy the Gen I was that the rings issue. But I didn't care with the Gen II. I already ordered 35MM rings when I got...

    17 HMR scope suggestion

I tell you what - this little scope is bad-ass for the 17 HMR. I used this reticle to hit prairie dogs out to 225 yards with my CZ 17HMR with 10 MPH winds. Worked great for changing distances and wind. Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield E1 Rifle Scope

    Shooting at night.....?

I've seen road flares used either in front or behind. Glow stick set a precise distance away from the target. You adjust your dope to aim at the stick, but hit the target. For example, if the target was at 400 yards and the stick it 5 feet to the left of the target, you dial your 400 yard...

    Redding T7

Boogie - you are just "out of the node" on those VLD's. That is classic vertical stringing. Your rifle is hammer for sure, but I'm confident some charge tweaking will bring those vld's up to par with the SMKs. I usually say "1/2 MOA is good enough for me" as well, but you really have an...

Hornady OAL gauge - Need a couple of cases threaded... Anyone do this here?

Hornady will modify any case you for a very modest fee. Necking down a larger modified case won't work because the neck needs to be just loose enough to have the bullet slide easily. Hornady takes care of the proper neck sizing as well.

    JBM Ballistics question, FNG question.

I made cards years ago but now I just run an ap and plug in the Da when I shoot. But my primary dope data comes from a kestrel with the ballistic ap. Balls on dead nuts winter spring summer and fall from below freezing to over 100. From negative 100 da to over 10,000.
