Breaking in a barrel...yes, no, maybe so?

For the after market custom barrell...total waste of time. Please someone post up "I didn't break in my **insert name brand** barrel and boy did I regret it" because I have yet to ever see anyone post it or have a conversation with anyone who said it. What I will say, is that some...

Always MIL vs MOA EXCEPT group size?

Yeah, I like your thought process...but measuring groups in inches and stateting it in MOA is just easier and quicker.

Gunsmithing Bedding Compounds? Devcon still the standard?

I'm old school and use Brownells Acraglas Gel - it's the consistency of peanut butter and I have the timing down cold. Trim exterior over-flow in 2.5 hours. Pull and clean up internal over-flow in 6 hours. I also use the Brownells Acra-Release. It shoots a super fine mist that get into every...

    Prone- Slung and Biopod

I get a kick out of all the dogma parroted here about "proper" sling use and then cite techniques using 100 year old technology. Not by any means the latest technology, I've had great results with a TAB Quick Cuff and a strategically placed flush cup just in front of my hand on both my AX and...

    Before and After Cleaning

That one is a Brux. But, truth be told, any of the major custom barrel makers out there should yeild the same results. I've had Kreiger and Bartleins as well as a couple of Brux, with similar results. Have you ever heard anyone say "My _____ after market barrel goes to shit once it hits...

    Before and After Cleaning

I made it to 650 rounds once on my creed more before I lost the nerve and finally cleaned it. I could no longer take the suspense of waiting for the accuracy to drop off. Now I get to around 300 and clean " just because" I use wipe out foamy cleaner. I foam it up wait anywhere for 3 to 8 hours...

    proper form...

You know you are doing it right when the rifle recoils straight in to you and does not flop over one way or the other. That is, you should finish recoil on the same target, not 2 targets over. (I often shoot prone in a high power type range format with numbered lanes).

Range Report Is this right? 2600fps 175 SMK?

Sounds about right...you have a good starting point. It will be interesting to see how your range card pans out at other ranges. If you are within a couple of clicks you've done well.

So you are asking everywhere if bedding a rifle is a good idea? Yes, it's a good idea.

    Rifle won't hold zero... :(

I would keep an eye on the for sale section here, or maybe Craig's List, for a sweet deal on a Counter Sniper scope. You can't get them anymore, so they are very valuable and difficult to find in good condition.

Advanced Marksmanship Carbon and copper, what can it hurt?

Cleaning barrels is over-rated. Especially the aftermarket/custom barrels used with precision rifles. I went over 600 rounds in my 6.5 Creedmore before cleaning once, and was still shooting 1/2 MOA ish at 1,000 in a match. I cleaned it because I could no longer bear the suspense of when...

Is lateral "stringing" only caused by poor technique?

I have only anecdotal evidence, but I believe that horizontal stringing is primarily a marksmanship issue. While vertical can be either marksmanship or load node/loading technique.

    Hold over or adjust?

If there is time, I dial elevation. If there is little time, I will hold over out to 600 yards. We often shoot multiple targets on a tight time frame. If the wind it not too fierce, holding over is very fast.

    Precision shooting at night

Or there is some other type of target indicator - I was at one match and they had a light stick set up and was told the target was 1 mil below the light stick. Dialed the dope and put the 1 mil high mark on the light stick. Be sure to have a red or green head light of some sort. Do some dry...

Single shot for tactical match beginner?

I always thought the whole point of the "stupid marksmanship" section was to avoid the jeering that often comes with "stupid" questions. As for the single shot question, some local monthly type matches might be ok for some courses. But would advise against going through the cost of...

    Advanced Marksmanship Dealing with mirage

It sounds like you mean mirage from the heat of the supressor? Reading the title of your post made made think of mirage downrange that would effect bullet path. I don't have a supressor, but maybe someone has rigged up a heat shield like those F-Classers do to dissapate the mirrage off their...

Rifle Scopes Best value in the high-end used market?

Used Schmidt's hardly ever go for less than $3MM. I think the best used value are the USO's...I've sold a couple and bought a couple myself. There seems to be plenty of them and they just don't seem to hold thier value as much as the others - probably because each one is custom and there is a...
