Advanced Marksmanship How do you flesh-out your DOPE from the few known ranges you have?

We need to recognize the distinction between: 1) getting the correct dope across all ranges for similar conditions either at the same session or a later one, and 2) calculating correct dope as conditions change. Calculating correct dope as conditions change is the next step in learning this...

Advanced Marksmanship How do you flesh-out your DOPE from the few known ranges you have?

I was able to get JBM to agree with a little tweaking. It doesn't do DA, but I think I backed into it.

So, are you saying that by tweaking the speed, you get the right results but discount them because the speed appears to be wrong? I've set-up at least a dozen rifles in this manner and generally get to within one or 2 clicks of the right answer. This is pretty straight forward stuff once you...

    Buying a new stock question

There's no harm in having a little extra space around the barrel. If it was me, and I was on a budget, i'd get the tighter channel and hog it out. I have various sizes dowels (some use deep sockets wrenches) and have at it with very rough grits of sand paper. Depends on how nice you want...

Perhaps your questions are better served in the re-loading section? "Having no idea what powder to buy" suggests you may want to invest in a reputable reloading manual rather than relying on the kindness of strangers on the internets. I like Sierra and Hornady myself.

Just plug in your bullet and estimated speed to JBM (and other pertinent variables like scope height and zero distance) and compare the output to your dope. Tweak the speed until you get as close as possible to your results and then just run with all the other distances. JBM is free...

    Remington 700 donor rifle quest

Just get an action from Brownells or buy an SPS - i think you can get them for around $400. I bought an SPS in 243 several years ago and I used it to practice glass bedding on a boyd stock I finished. Learned a lot about bedding with worrying about screwing up. Later I just pulled it apart...

    Bench vertical stringing

Yeah, on that note, I rarely shoot from the bench anymore. These "tactical" style stocks are designed with prone shooting in mind. Any rifle I shoot in competition or in the field prone, gets shot prone at the square range during practice or just zeroing. I've often joked, a really...

    Rifle Scopes Leupold Mark AR

+1 on the new Mark AR's vs the old ones. I have a 4-12 and the 6-18. Great glass for the money. BDC turett is too limiting, but it is marked in Mils as well. One is on a 20" heavy barrel AR, so maybe I can use the BDC for that one. I haven't had a chance to chrono my new load yet...

    left eye doninant question

Another lefty eye, right hander checking in - I shoot all right handed - I only discovered my cross eye dominance after shooting for 15 years when I first took some professional instruction. Precision rifle - I have a novel solution for that - I set my occular scope cap hinge at 10 o'clock...

    Bench vertical stringing

My first go at a bench with my very first McMillan A-5 resulted in the same problem - just not comfortable behind the rifle, trying to settle on one position. Try and not move you head at all between shots and see if that helps.

    Single vs Double Stage

I personally don't like 2 stage trigger, when I push my finger against the trigger, I want the rifle to go off, not think about pushing it in 2 ways. But this is simply personal preference.

    AICS...bed the recoil lug?

I have 2 AX chassis for Surgeon 591s. My first one just bolted on, no issues. My second one had some accuracy issues that may have had to do with the new barrel, but caused me to look closely at how the action mated to the chassis. I was horrified to see my rear tang move up ever so...

    Bore Brush

I think the old "clean your rifle after every trip to the range" is a carry-over from the days of corrosive primers, when that was a necessity.

    Bore Brush

I'm not going to argue with what works for you and that the results satisfy your needs and understand that you have substantially higher liability potential if you get it wrong. But look at it a different way (consider this an academic discussion) ...this regime consists a LOT of work and...
