    I agree I would go AI AE as Frank said and yeah 308 is probably a good choice, barrel 18" is more then enough, 20" is fine as well. Short is the way to go. I have to say the logic in the original post about being able to "run out to a store and buy 308 ammo on an extended engagement and deliver...

    USO and S&B own this market...everything else is competing for 3rd. USO wins on price point and quality, S&B has the quality but at a much higher price point. If I had to pick I would go USO.

    Hmmm I am running the same round but in AIAX and have never had this issue. I wonder if it is pressure on the mag catch that is maybe impacting the mag alignment.

    6.5 creedmoor vs .308

    had 308 run 6.5CM now and see no reason to go back! Ran my 6.5 in a 4 day class with a buddy running a 308, both high end rifles both can shoot .25" groups but past 400 yards there started to be a huge difference in wind calls and the advantage was 6.5 all day long! Also shooting out past 1200...

    I just took a 4 day precision class with my GAP 6.5CM running 140Amax loaded just like factory and was pounding steel out to 1227 yards or so no problem.     They still make them...that is just AI...I waited for months for a butt spike for an AX. Dealers had no idea if and when they would get them seems to be normal for AI and many others in this industry.

    I have a place in WI just over the boarder that I keep all my fun NFA toys...belong to a rifle club with long range just over the boarder so shoot there with them and then enjoy them when I go to training classes and visit family in NFA friendly states.     Yea I was a bit shocked that factory ammo I was getting the rated FPS on the box yet that is with a longer barrel. I load 1 grain higher then factory and that gives me an extra 70 FPS. The suppressor also gives me about an extra 18fps.

    Oh and meant to say.....if you aren't going to run a suppressor short probably isn't as important...shorter barrel does make it a lot more handy but when you put a 9" suppressor ever inch shorter in the barrel helps with the over all length.

    24" is as long as I would go. I went 22" on my GAP and can easily hit 2800 fps with the 140 amax without having to hot rod it. I suggest shorter over longer. 24" would be max I would go. There seems to be 2 schools of thought and that is short like 20-22" or long 26-28". If only shooting...

    Suppressors thinking of a suppressor

    My advise to you is don't buy one...it won't stop with just one lol. I started with one can last year and now have 3, want 4 more and that grew to 2 SBR and want 2 more lol...NFA is more addictive then you can ever imagine!
