    Gunsmithing Remington Action Truing Options?

As I begin my adventure on the new lathe, I'm shopping for tools and the best practices on a lot of things. I'm curious about how you guys like to true 700 actions? I've considered the following: Dave Kiff's PTG Remington Truing kit to go .010 over with the threads. + the pieces to true...

Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

It's here!! I'm officially a gunsmith....well that's what it says on the lathe!! lol I guess technically I should get a power cord for it, being able to turn it on would help my gunsmith street cred..... :)

Is upgrading to a Swarovski ATX spotting scope really worth $5,000?

^^^ What he said. I've not played with the $5000 Swaro, but even $5000 doesn't eliminate stuff like mirage and other glassing issues. I'd rather have a Razor HD demo + the reticle eyepiece for spotting, add the target cam for the real long range stuff when needed, AND have about $3000 left to...

Gunsmithing Help with Timney install failure - spring and sear disintegration

And lastly, the spring on the first diagram is in about the same place, but it's at a weird 30 degree angle or so and looks like a solid pin in their picture.

Gunsmithing Help with Timney install failure - spring and sear disintegration

This is my guess how it goes, you'll know real quick if it works or not when you put the bolt back in and try to dry fire it. Check out my super fancy MS Paint work....

Gunsmithing Help with Timney install failure - spring and sear disintegration

I would think it installs just as your last picture shows, insert the slave pin then flip it back over 180 degrees to have it fall in the trigger housing. That make sense?

Gunsmithing Help with Timney install failure - spring and sear disintegration

Check out these pics, all Rem triggers are similar, that spring will go in the general area shown and have some way to keep it from moving around(again, a slot it drops into, a pin it sits on, etc.) http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/xmarkpro.jpg...

Gunsmithing Help with Timney install failure - spring and sear disintegration

Pull the bolt release out of the action completely. Install the front pin using the slave, make sure the permanent pin doesn't stick out the side and interfere with the future bolt release. Then install the rear pin and bolt release. Post a picture of the trigger from the top and I'll see if...

Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

LOL, I never say never, but I'll be happy to be able to do my own stuff well first. I'm just thankful for lots of good gunsmith friends who are willing to share their knowledge and hold my hand. Stopped by a local shop last night to catch up with a GS friend I hadn't seen in a while, he gave...

Vortex Razor HD 11-33, Viper HD 15-45, or Bushnell Legend HD 15-45

You've come to the right place....I might have some valid input and experience. Don't buy the little Razor for your needs, it's ok for hunting, but a little painful to look through for long periods like spotting at matches, your spotters will hate you. Of those 3 you mention then the Viper HD...

Thanks for all the kind words, good advice, PMs with links, etc etc. The lathe is officially ordered as well as a few indicators, bases, etc. Need to order some extra tool holders and bits tomorrow. Also on the list is a call to Dave Kiff tomorrow, he's a wealth of knowledge but I'll bet it's...
