    Gunsmithing Most Accurate .308 Barrel?

Re: Most Accurate .308 Barrel? My opinion: I am not a gunsmith. I am an engineer, though, so I am always confident in my answers whether they are right or wrong! I have that disease! One must trust his equipment, but there is indeed a point of diminishing returns. My friend has a factory...

Nor Cal Precision - History Lessons

Does anybody know the history of Nor Cal Precision, not the rifle club but the manufacturer/gunsmith? Was someone there named Jerry Rice? Why are they no longer in business? I have a rifle with a rem 700 action that was supposedly trued by Nor Cal Precision. It works well. BN

    Parker Hale Problems

Re: Parker Hale Problems Could be Versa Pod, but the engraved markings on the side that say "Parker Hale" persuade me otherwise. Could it be a fake? In one of the photos you can clearly see the "ball and socket" joint at the bottom, with the round feet. I think this is the cause of the...

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... I sometimes wear a pair of thin worsted wool dress pants while hunting. They are brown plaid/textured. I bought them from a thrift store, probably from an old man born in the 20's. They are quite comfortable, even when damp. Nate

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... Another idea along the core temperature idea: Vests. Vests keep core warm but allow arms freedom of motion for work. Try a thick puffy vest when you stop working. Nate

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... Warm core = warm hands and feet. Cold core = cold hands and feet. Keep the core warm, and your feet and hands will stay warmer. Try adding layers to the core, even a vest , and watch your hands toast.

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... On topic: I think thin and cheap polyester on the bottom layer is best. I actually prefer it to be loose-fitting, also. No need for tight "sausage wrap" to stay warm. Thermax is great, too, just a fancy type of polyester. Thicker polyester...

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... Everyone seems to be recommending good stuff, but this can get expensive. How about some cheaper options? Walmart, Target, thrift stores, and even the grocery store have clothing that will do the trick for outdoor work, and do it cheaply. The...

    Best ear protection?

Re: Best ear protection? I like my thin Peltor 6S muffs. Fat muffs get in the way. Plugs underneath make em even better.

    Parker Hale Problems

I have problems with my Parker Hale bipod. It is mounted on a spigot on the front via an Anchutz rail. 1) Legs fall out. I tied them at max exension with 550 cord. Annoying when bipod "self deploys". 2) Loading bipod in prone is almost impossible because: a) round smooth feet slip on...

    Advanced Marksmanship Blinking

Re: Blinking In my limited experience, to deal with flinching I: Shoot a heavier rifle. Shoot a rifle with an adjustable stock for better fit. Shoot a .308, not a super ultra mega magnum. Dry fire. Hold weapon tightly into shoulder. Shoot .22 a lot. BN

Rifle Scopes Shooting with both eyes open?

    Advanced Marksmanship Blinking

Re: Blinking I have been dry firing my .308 for about a month in my basement prone. I only do about 10 shots per session, realistically. Yesterday while firing live I forgot to place a round in the chamber (I know, amateur) and the firing pin snapped forward on an empty chamber. I didn't...
