Advanced Marksmanship Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson

Re: Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson I modified my B&C cheekpiece by grinding some of it off with a bench grinder and wire wheel. I then noticed exposed fibers, perhaps fiberglass, that poked my cheek. I sanded the pad lightly and applied 2 thin coats of polyurethane with sanding between...

    Fieldcraft Camouflage technology thread

Re: Camouflage technology thread For deer: I like to use different pattter up top than on my legs. I use large splotches and spray-painted blobs rather than intricate patterns. Breaking up outline is what I want. Camo for hunting is mostly to impress other hunters, not for successful results.

Advanced Marksmanship Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson

Re: Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson So, let's see if I understand... For right-handed shooter, Face left side of rifle, muzzle to the left. Place chin atop center of cheekpiece, head facing straight ahead, rifle near chest but pointing to the left. (How much chin should overlap comb, 2...

Advanced Marksmanship Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson

Re: Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson I don't think I want to shoot with my chin atop the comb. Perhaps I misunderstood. I have considered using a table saw or chop saw or grinder or mill to remove material from the left side. Nate

Advanced Marksmanship Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson

Re: Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson My cheekpiece does not move laterally. If I have good contact with the stock as it is now, are you suggesting I move the pad down and adopt a new cheek placement that moves my head toward the center? I may play with canting the buttplate to see what I...

Advanced Marksmanship Cheek Weld with Bell and Carlson

I have a Bell and Carlson adjustable stock, the one with the adjustable cheekpiece. "Model 2094- Remington 700 BDL Varmint/Tactical, Short Action", according to B&C. http://www.bellandcarlson.com/newproducts.html I find the cheekpiece is too wide and too flat on top, without a steep taper...

Advanced Marksmanship Question - Positioning Butt of Rifle on Shoulder

Re: Question - Positioning Butt of Rifle on Shoulder Wonderful answers, thank you. If anybody has anything to add, fire away. I take it from you guys that resting the butt directly in the center of the meaty part of the deltoid is not correct. When I was doing this I think I had my stock...

Advanced Marksmanship Question - Positioning Butt of Rifle on Shoulder

What is the correct position to place the butt of the rife against the shoulder? I have shot both prone and sitting/standing by placing the butt against the anterior deltoid muscle and also by placing it closer to the center of my body, more on the top of the pectoral muscle close to the...

Re: New Build Photos Length of pull = 14.5 inches I am 6'3" with long skinny arms. Long feels great to me. Thanks for comments, vents toward the magazine sound helpful. So far I have shot several 5-shot groups at 100 yards of under 1/2 inch, some under that with holes touching. I did...

Re: New Build Photos More on the holes: Does anybody know if Remington ever shipped bolts with the two holes? I bought the action used, so I suppose the previous owner added the holes? By the way, do I understand correctly that the only gases to escape those holes should be what...

Re: New Build Photos The rifle is shooting great with 155 grain Hornady Amax factory ammo. The rifle has almost no recoil thanks to the heavy barrel and the brake. I enjoyed the Duracoating job. I used stencils and my airbrush. I tried to copy the MARPAT pattern somewhat, but used larger...

Re: New Build Photos I am not an experienced shooter and have nothing to compare the Bell and Carlson stock to except a couple of factory wooden stocks. I like the stock very well. The palm is very large, and the pistol grip upright, so it keeps my wrist and trigger finger very relaxed...

Re: New Build Photos I have no idea why the two holes in the bolt exist. I bought the bolt and receiver used from a guy on the Hide. My gunsmith says some people do that to trim weight? I haven't checked into it. It shoots great, so I haven't messed with it. I don't think it is a safety...
