    Trackingpoint firearms are pretty dumb!!

Envisioning TrackingPoint Setup of the Future: 1) Install scope. It self levels so no need for anything fancy. 2) Boresight. 3) Fire three bullets and use arrows to move reticle to point of impact to set zero. 4) Attach magnetospeed chrono to muzzle. 5) Fire three more bullets and velocity data...

Accuracy International AW vs. AW decisions.....

Caveat: Have not shot the AX. Just shot an AX chassis rifle. I have shot my AW thousands of times. Reasons in favor of the AW: 1) You get more foregrip space with the AW. The AX will have a smaller foregrip, and then it turns into the tubular rail. It is a comfortable diameter for grabbing...

    Rifle Scopes NF 3.5x15x50 F1 or S&B PMII 3x20x50

Yep. I goofed when typing the above. It was the 5-25. Fixed.

    Rifle Scopes NF 3.5x15x50 F1 or S&B PMII 3x20x50

I use F1s and have tried the S&B 5-25 during an eval. My takeaways. F1 Notes Extremely rugged. Turrets have fewer places for water/grit to enter. Illumination is simple. Power adjustment is fast as you just grab the entire ocular and turn it. Lifetime warranty. Includes a good set of...

    Tele Vue 85 Experiences

It will be more for astronomy than field use. Meaning it will have replaceable eyepieces, may not be very water resistant, won't have armored coating to resist being dropped, and you may need rings to mount it to a proper tripod. It will be good glass, but for a field scope for use on a range...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

Good points. I put in Nikon. I'll think about the format of this. I was also considering asking if people owning the gear were sponsored as well. We have the tactical competition gear list on the forum, but without knowing who was sponsored and given the gear vs. went out and bought it the...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

I'm probably going to put together a proper survey offsite. Here are the brands I will include. Who did I forget? Bausch and Lomb Burris Bushnell Tactical Hensholdt IOR Kahles Leica Leupold March Millet Nightforce Nikon Premier Schmidt and Bender Steiner Swarovski...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

The polling system is limited. If we want to do this right we'd have to use a proper survey system. But maybe enough people would do it to make it worth trying. I tried to pick scopes that I thought had most market penetration to get the most responses. So a mix of mid-range to higher end S&B...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

Ok so far then for self-reported problem rates (rounded to nearest whole number): Bushnell Total: 84 Reported Issues: 21 Percent with Issues: 25% Leupold Total: 148 Reported Issues: 49 Percent with Issues: 33% Nightforce Total: 121 Reported Issues: 13 Percent with Issues: 11% Schmidt and...

Rifle Scopes If you could go back in time....

My first rifle was a 700PSS with Leupold Mark IV variable scope. I still have that combo and it worked great for me for years and didn't break the bank. I then moved to a NightForce F1 because I wanted matching reticle/knobs and front focal plane that Leupold didn't offer at the time. I then...

    Lets be honest..

Ok I wrote the above more as a way to set the scene for one particular shoot. Did I intentionally leave the rifle out in during the snow storm? Yep. Did we have a choice? Nope. We were shooting and rifles were not being moved around. Besides, why would I give up a perfectly good opportunity to...

AI AE Modification - Loosing Weight

The trg stock is much lighter than the AI chassis with skins. The trg action bolts into the composite stock. So it's much lighter, but maybe not as rugged. I am probably going to put a thinner sporter contour weight on the AW and I'm estimating it could take off a couple pounds if I use a 20-22"...

AI AE Modification - Loosing Weight

Ok that's what I was thinking. After weighing the AW action without barrel I am thinking the best way to reduce weight is going to be in the barrel, bipod, rings, etc. The chassis and action is not worth the hassle/risk. Very cool experiment though. Thanks for posting.

AI AE Modification - Loosing Weight

I suspect the milling on the chassis is not worth the weight savings. Most of the weight is going to be in the barrel and steel action that cannot be easily altered. But I want to know what weight was saved by doing this mod. I don't buy rifles thinking about what the next guy that owns it...

AI AE Modification - Loosing Weight

How much weight was lost doing this? I weighed my AW action recently after pulling the barrel and it was between 6-7 lbs. without scope and magazine. So half the weight is just the barrel. I was thinking of a much lighter barrel profile to start, but would like to know what taking that much meat...

    AI AW or AI AX?

Thanks Tom. Just to be clear I am a diehard AI fan. Whether an AW or AX they are great rifles. If I had to sell all my firearms, my AI would be the absolute last to go. And honestly I'm not expecting AI to take the comments of the Internet peanut gallery from people like me seriously. I'm not...

    AI AW or AI AX?

It's just that it's part of the chassis. There is a big roll pin to make it come out if I recall, but otherwise it just won't move. So just one less thing to go wrong. But also realize that as a shooter I tend to grab all over the foregrip area with my hand depending on what is needed. So I...

    AI AW or AI AX?

I own and AW and considered in the recent past about going to an AX. I got behind an AX chassis system, but not the real thing. The notes about the AW vs. AX below then are part speculative, but hopefully helpful. My issues with the AX chassis (full disclosure that I have not shot a real AX...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Yeah I won't hack on the action. It's more of a thought experiment. The much thinner barrel contour would be the best step. It just needs to balance the rifle. FWIW. I have the 20" UK barrel for the AW and it's actually heavier than the UK 26" profile barrel! Realistically, I just accept that...
