Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

I'll check it out closer on a friend's rifle. I like the QD because I've used it in competitions. It's handy to be able to have no bipod for sling/unsupported shooting and then quickly slap it in to drop to prone (or vice versa). I will sometimes pull it off and stow it in my pack when hiking...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Covered action/Closed action - Basically only the ejection port is exposed. The rest of the action/bolt is covered to keep out debris/elements. I was in a rifle shoot in a snow storm several years back and of the four Remington 700s present (all with open actions), two of them had their bolts...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Thanks for the pic. Don't know if this is available in the U.S. yet or not. I'll look out for it. It looks like a bit of the TRG bipod styling to it from the top. I'm glad they kept the spigot.

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Thanks for the updates on the AX vs. AW. I'll just need to get behind one. Right now I have only tried an AX chassis version and still preferred the AW. I need to use the AX though more extensively and in non-prone shooting situations to see how it goes. If I had to modify the AI bipod it would...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Can't go wrong with an AI. It's a great rifle.

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

This is perhaps true. I just have bad experience watching people adjusting triggers on otherwise perfectly fine rifles and making them worse. The Sako TRG in particular (old trigger module) is very sensitive to improper adjustment. I would feel comfortable adjusting the AI trigger now simply...

Ready to order AI AE MKIII 308

I have run a 0 MOA on my AIs for years and never needed the elevation with any modern scope (NightForce F1s, Steiner, etc.). There is enough elevation for .308 to take it well over 1400 yards which is basically a crapshoot for the .308 to hit anything with any meaningful impact. Out to 1100 or...

New Safe $4-5k budget. Where to buy?

My thinking is the 3/16" plate door is too thin. So this safe I'd use for a smaller less valuable gun collection and perhaps upgrade later. The minimum I'd want is a solid 1/2" plate steel door. And by 1/2" solid plate steel I mean solid steel. Not the way a lot of safe companies do it by...

    Sako TRG 42

I have shot a lot of rounds in my TRG-22 and have never cleaned the copper from the barrel. It shoots sub 0.5MOA. In fact, it came from the factory already fired and dirty with copper in it. I figure the copper wants to be there so unless there is a specific problem that I'm certain is due to...

New Safe $4-5k budget. Where to buy?

Graffunder is top of the line. Their quality and protection is excellent. The Amsec BF series is absolutely the best value in any gun safe. I posted a very long reply on this subject here: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/s4-sniper%92s-hide%AE-equipment/26665-best-gun-safe.html#post384528

If you are thinking about ordering an AI...

I have shot the 155s out to 1000 this past weekend and all intermediate ranges (100-1000). This is from an AIAW with UK barrel. They are running around 2900fps. and need about 1.4mils less elevation than my old 175s SMK along with a lot less windage. They shoot almost identical elevation as the...

    Anyone using IS binos?

The canon 15x50IS is the best binocular I have ever used. Better than my spotter with the exception that it doesn't have a mil reticle. Otherwise, great for observing and general outdoor use. They are awesome and rugged.

Would you shoot in the rain at 600yds?

As others posted, rain and snow has never affected my bullet impact. It only affects the shooter and gear like optics, laser range finders, etc. Personally, I like training in bad weather. As a competitor, I secretly hope there is bad weather in competitions because most people don't train in...

Feeding problems with AI Arctic Warfare

What I saw is the round was stripped off at such an angle that the bolt face was hitting the case wall. I don't think a feed ramp 2x the size would have solved it. The magazine follower was just too far tilted and sticking. I swapped magazines and cleaned it to fix it.

Feeding problems with AI Arctic Warfare

Maybe the magazine was having an issue and now it is loosened up? Again the only time I ever had a jam like that on my AI was from a sticking magazine follower due to a lot of fine sand entering it. The follower was tilting and allowing the round to tip up too far when the bolt was stripping...

Feeding problems with AI Arctic Warfare

The only time I've had a jam like that was from a sticking follower in the AI magazine due to sand that had gotten into it. I would look at the magazine closely. Even pull the follower and make sure it is riding smooth and the lips are not bent. I would also pull a bore snake through the chamber...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

(emphasis added) Yes, that is the best thing to do with the AI (and Sako) trigger. Leave them alone. People get drawn to messing with them like a moth to a flame and there is a good chance they'll screw it up. These are field tactical rifles, not benchrest guns. The triggers in them are...

NZ Gunslinger 2013 Lake Tekapo Match AAR

Awesome report. Did you see much advantage of the .338 over the .300wm at those ranges?

Rifle Scopes Whats the input on a Steiner 5-25 and what reticle choice?

I bought a 4-16x50 and the glass quality is very good and the Mildot reticle is very good as well (no MSR option for that one). Turrets are nice and big and easy to turn. They have a good feel to them with nice clicks and ergonomics. The illumination is easy to access on the parallax adjustment...

AW vs TRG - first top tier rifle advice

I would get a .308 in either of these rifles first. Since you already own a 300wm you can use that power if you had to for hunting. But .308 is cheaper to shoot, the barrel will last much longer, it is less punishing, and the rifle in the caliber is cheaper. Plus you can switch to a...
