    DIY rifle stock bedding

I don't possess a router to clean up the magwell. My stock contains pillars so I want to torque the action to the floorplate so the action contacts the pillars. I thought about taping up the walls of the magwell & waxing my floorplate all around, then clean the transition between the bedding and...

Rifle Scopes NF NXS Compact Questions

10x power is what the USMC used up to 1000 yards (10x Unertl). Think of it this way, 10x power at 1000 yards is like open sights at 100 yards.

Rifle Scopes NF NXS Compact Questions

With the Mil-R reticle, you're essentially exchanging the .8 mil and .2 mil hash marks for .5 mil marks only. In mil dot the diameter of the dot is .8 mil and the space between 2 dots is .2 mil. In Mil-R the long hashes are mils and half hashes are .5 mil. It also depends on whether you like...

    Rifle Scopes Scopes Slipping

If its a fit issue with the rings being a few thousandths oversized, take off the top half of the ring and place it on a sheet of 600 grit sandpaper and gently rotate. You should be sanding the underside of the screw hole of the top half. The idea is taking a few thousandths off the bottom...

Rifle Scopes nightforce - worth the extra money vs others?

Thanks- I am in the same dilemma as the OP and this put things in perspective for me. So for about $800 more the NF is illuminated, tougher, and backed with excellent customer service. Since you mentioned the rings, I noticed the NF comes with rings while the Bushnell doesn't (making it more...

    .308 overpressure

Re: .308 overpressure Could be there's some grease/glue-like substance in the chamber and softens up when the chamber warms after a few shots. That explains why you don't experience sticky-bolt in subsequent shots. Try wiping the bore and chamber with acetone or rubbing alcohol or simple...

Evaluate my ladder test & groups. 300 yds

Re: Evaluate my ladder test & groups. 300 yds I agree with the above poster. If you want to to go further, load 3 rounds of each .1 increment between 89.5 to 90.5 (for a total of 30 rounds). Be sure to space the shots for cooling and max consistency.

    Gunsmithing Remington Extractor Problem...

Re: Remington Extractor Problem... +1 on the extractor being out of spec. I've had the exact same problem even with the newer rivetless extractors where the "lip" (or hook as you call it) impeded the cycling because it was too long. I made a few passes with a dremel and problem solved.

bullet stuck in barrel need help

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help If all else fails, stick the barrel in the freezer then try to bump it out with a cleaning rod or dowel. The copper/lead will shrink more than steel.

    7.62 surplus sticking in 308

Re: 7.62 surplus sticking in 308 Whoa - everybody needs to slow down a bit. All of you exceedingly knowledgeable which is usually a good thing but right now there's a whole bunch of unsubstantiated theories being tossed around. OP - have you done a google search regarding your ammo? You're...

Re: is my cheap scope screwing me? Search around the optics for sale and you'll land a Bushnell 3200 10x for around $170. Retail they're around $190-$200+. Things not to buy into too much IMO: #1 - you need 1000x magnification. Dude in WW2 both sides were using 4x magnification. People...

Re: How many is too many? Case separation ... Haha - sizing is easy to learn but hard to master. I used to set up following the instructions: twist die until it touches the shellholder and then extra twist. Then I spent too much time on this forum and took a handful of cases that were...

Military Pull down 175 grain Match bullets

Re: Military Pull down 175 grain Match bullets I've shot roughly 1000 rounds of new SMK's and 300 pulled SMK's. For what its worth my best groups with new SMK's are around 1/3 MOA compared to 1/2 MOA with the pulled SMK's. I think the collett pulled projectiles do in fact affect accuracy...

5 lb RL 15 container sealed?

Re: 5 lb RL 15 container sealed? RL-15 has a hard plastic seal on the cover kind of like a bottle of water. If that was broken when you bought it I would exchange it. You never know what someone might've or could've put in it. I don't recall RL-15 having a plastic/foil like seal like...
