    208 AMax 100 yard load ? (update)

Re: 208 AMax 100 yard load ? I'm currently using 208's with 41.4grn Varget, lapua brass, ccibr2 primers. It's right on 2400fps for me, (26" 1/10 twist) It stacks bullets at 100yrds, and stays tight as a nuns knickers waaay past 600 Even with a bit of gusting. Give them a go, it's always...

RL-17 and Temp Effect on Effective Charge Weight

Re: RL-17 and Temp Effect on Effective Charge Weight In some of the competitions I shoot, I can potentially have a round cooking in a hot chamber for up to a minute before letting it go.. So that's exactly how I test my loads during development. It's an alternative to waiting for a boiling...

Conflicting information on 75 grain AMAX

Re: Conflicting information on 75 grain AMAX I have tried the 75 AMAX in both an AR-15 1/8 twist Mag length, and a Steyr aug 1/9 twist mag length.. But sadly didn't work for me. They cycled ok with the ogive below the case mouth, But accuracy was poor in both initial OCW tests that I moved...

    Proper testing?

Re: Proper testing? If your ammo is consistent, (velocity) Then it shouldn't matter if it's 1 shot per hour, or a x10 shot string. Just shoot a handful of groups over the chrono and you should see straight away if your getting big variances or not. How much variance is acceptable, all...

    Extreme neck tension problems

Re: Extreme neck tension problems What bullet seater die are you using? Is it a crimping type seater improperly adjusted for the bullets? i.e. it's trying to crimp the case mouth while still seating the bullet? Usually this produces buckled or bulged cases, but if it's right on the edge of...

    Proof Testing?

Re: Proof Testing? Slightly different laws over here in UK, I believe everything has to be legally proof tested before Legally SOLD. (I think proof testing means they put a round thru it 30% over the sammi pressure limit) So you can buy a blank barrell, cut/ream/etc shoot it yourself, but...

    208 AMAX with Varget.

Re: 208 AMAX with Varget. I have been using this load a while now, and I absolutely love it. It's easy on the brass, recoil is similar to pushing 178's hard, And it just ignores the wind 208 AMAX 41.4 grn Varget Lapua brass Cci br2 primer C.O.A.L 2.887" 2400fps out of my 26" 1/10twist...

    Loose primers

Re: Loose primers I'm certainly not disagreeing with the apparent pressure signs, but as for the cause of them i assumed they had something to do with issues caused by the loose primer. The only reason I say that is, this happened whilst stepping up in .3grn jumps to find a pressure limit on...

    Loose primers

Re: Loose primers I learned the hard way how 'loose' is 'TOO DAMN LOOSE TO USE' Result.. Harder than normal recoil, Bad smelly smoke leaking out the action. Firing pin stuck inside the bolt, Hard extraction, Slight ring burnt onto bolt face. LESSON LEARNED!!!

    Measuring headspace

Re: Measuring headspace Welcome to the forum +1 on what Tripwire just said, Also, make sure you've deprimed the brass before using the headspace tool... Sometimes the fired primers can be a little proud of the case which will throw your measurements off a few thou.
