Use to load pistol, new to rifle. Have to use a full size die?

I wouldn't try to save .13 cents on lube. I read a lot of posts about stuck cases from guys who use spray lube. It might work for some guys, but like I said, I see a lot of guys having trouble with it. Real lube is cheap and last for years. You can chuck a Phillips screw driver bit in a drill...

Getting ready for reloading -- help with equipement selection

The Rockchucker is the standard. A big boss would be better for 50BMG and possibly the 338Lm as it has a longer stroke and a larger opening. The RCBS kit is OK, you will be able to make very good ammo with it. It really is a bit of personal preference in some things. Powder measures are personal...

    New packaging?

New packaging is what I found last week in Reno. Almost passed it up thinking it was repackaged military brass, but it says Winchester.

    first reloading kit..

BR guys do not crimp. But you can try it and see, each rifle is different. I have made very accurate ammo with standard RCBs FL dies for may years. They have been the standard for 40 or 50 years. I start as long as the magazine will allow for hunting rounds and adjust from there. For my pdog...

    Brass seems to get shorter

Don't worry, it will grow after it is sized. Shoot it again and measure it after it is sized. Sizing pushes it back to a smaller diameter and the brass has to go somewhere. Length.

What kind of primer pocket swager is this?

That looks like the adapter to use RCBS shellholders in am old C & H press.

    first reloading kit..

I have dedicated dies for each rifle, however, I only use a single stage press. The sizing dies are adjusted for each rifle's chamber and the seaters are adjusted for that rifle's best accuracy. You will probably not want to crimp any rounds used for targets only. Experiment with crimp...

    Question on Dies...New to reloading

99 percent of shooters cannot tell the difference in dies. I have made some very accurate ammo with RCBS dies for 40 years. I do like the Redding competition seaters and the s type sizers for my precision rifles though. For an AR or a lever action, no difference will be noticed. If you are...

30-06 Bolt Gun: How much neck tension for best accuracy?

Sometimes it depends on your chamber size too. Try em and see which one your rifle likes.

Hunting & Fishing Guys that have a 'guided hunt' business; a few questions

I did this for about 10 years, it started out just like you say; I might as well get the tax deduction. Well here is how it works. The first year after spending all the money on insurance, license and permits, you take the people that have been recommended by your friends, mostly locals. You...

    Trimmed brass too short....

.035 is a lot to take off your brass. Make sure and clean your chamber before trying some longer brass, there will be a carbon ring in front of the short brass when you are done pdoggin. Your loads may or may not shoot quite as well due to the change in neck tension. You will probably not notice...

    Different zero

You took the action out of the stock? You will need to re zero every time.

F/L Sizing Reveal a Bad Chamber Job?

Have your gunsmith clean up the chamber. It should be quick and easy. Have it throated to the bullet you like while he has it. It will be cheaper than a custom die, and will solve your problem.

Bolt won't close on reloads .308

I fit was fired through a MG, they usually have larger chambers and you will never get it back to spec for a bolt rifle. I would measure it at the base and use a case gauge to check the shoulder. As already noted, mark a sized case with a sharpie, that will tell you where it is too big. Just a...

load help for 257 Weatherby mag

I use 7828 also. I load 115 grain Nosler Partitions at 3450. Excellent load, fast and accurate. You can get 3600 with 100 grainers. Don't shot too fast, let your barrel cool down between shots. You will love it!

Remington 243 with factory bull barrel

I would try to decide which bullet that you want to shoot. This will depend on a lot of things; what game are you hunting. range. You said under 450, that is a long shot for most hunting situations. If this is to be a deer rifle, I would look into a premium bullet at least 85-90 grains. Nosler...

Different sets of dies for different rifles?

Dedicate your dies to each rifle. I hate to always adjust something that is set. I dedicate the brass, why not the dies.

    When to pitch 223 brass?

I shoot all bolt actions, but I shoot in large batches and I reload them until the primer pockets get loose or a neck splits. I don't track how many times reloaded or trimmed etc.

    Primer pocket cleaning

I use a primer pocket uniformer when I first touch a piece of brass, then I am done with the primer pockets forever. Can't tell any difference, not a benchrest shooter, but I shoot a lot of pdogs with several very accurate rifles. I shoot a lot of paper to keep tuned up.
