    Advice on cleaning brass.

I have an RCBS unit, but you can use a milk jug with holes punched in it or a colander over a five gallon bucket. I did for years. Not sure the RCBS unit is any better, still a pain to use.

    Cases snug after FL resizing

Size the tight ones again, you might not have reached full extension. Size slowly, not in a hurry. Sounds like you found it though.

    Cases snug after FL resizing

Use a sharpie and mark the tight case, chamber and look for rub marks. Chances are it is too long, needs trim? or not enough shoulder bump? or case expanded at the base, near the rim. Post results and we can help decipher.....

Need to work up load from scratch when changing Headstamps?

Rifles will usually like the same seating depth. If you know your FPS, I would try to duplicate that first. Primer, powder weight might be a tad off.

Where do YOU draw the line on Pressure Signs?

Primers are what I look at, stiff bolt, etc. I have found that everything lasts a lot longer at low to moderate pressure, brass, barrels etc. That few extra FPS is not worth the wear and tear. Learn your drops and compensate.

    Sizing

Full length sizing for all semi autos. With a bolt gun you can neck size if the brass is fired from your gun. There is currently a debate whether it is beneficial or not, depending on who you listen to. You will need to full length size or use a body die after a few firings. If you full length...

Redding Type S bushing neck die set question...

You change the bushing in the type S dies to change the sizing of the diameter of the neck. You adjust the die up or down to determine the amount of the neck that gets sized. The micrometer seater stem is used to adjust how far the bullet is seated into the case neck. The micro top is used as a...

    Safety factor in reloading manuals?

The manual states the pressure they detected in their test rifle using their components. Always work up to this data looking for pressure signs. The safety factor is in your interpretation of this data. Some of the powder recipes have changed slightly over the years, as they have changed...

    Advice needed

Remington does not recommend these (6 1/2) primers with .223. Yes you can deprime live primers. Just SLOWLY run em through your decapper or sizer die. Wear safety glasses. I have never had one go off, but I would still advise using safety glasses. You can reuse these primers in .22 Hornet or...

    Load Development Help

Don't mix headstamps on load workups. You need to maintain a baseline. With mixed headstamps you have mixed volumes. Brass prep is very important. Groups should improve with same brass.

    Which powder?

3031 for your 30/30, but 4895 will work too. As noted, finding powders will be the problem. Research loading data, you will probably end up starting with something other than optimal, but don't worry, with some trial and error, you can make good loads with a lot of different powders. Each rifle...

    New reloader with question.

Don't get caught up in the "camover" part of the sizing die set instructions. Adjust your dies so that they resize your brass just enough to fit back into your rifle's chamber without bolt pressure. This will make your brass last longer and keep you from having headspace issues. It sounds like...

Officially a New Reloader of 308. I have some questions

Looks like you are on your way. If you want to find your max length it is simple, seat a bullet very long in a dummy round (no primer), use a sharpie to mark it. chamber, and see if it leaves rifling marks. Seat longer until it does. adjust your seater until you find zero, where it just touches...

Loose primer pockets - when is it too loose?

I seat primers by hand to feel for loose primers. when they are easy to push in, like you say, half way in with your fingers, they are too loose. Use a sharpie to mark them and toss em after this firing. It's not worth it to put yourself in danger.

Trying to finish up...what else do I still need?

Yup, the pegboard has got to go. You will find that sturdy shelves will be much better. A bottom shelf will reinforce your legs too. You will thank us for this some day. I like the light. You ar off to a great start. I like imperial die wax too!

    Neck turning and chamber sizing

The most common mistake of turning necks is turning too much. I adjust my cutter to just clean up the neck the first time. It shouldn't cut all the way around the neck, only the thick side. This will make them concentric. Then after that you can adjust for the neck tension that you need for...
