    I think they are all good scopes and own 3 PST's but for me I like more that 4 x for a hunting scope. Shooting 400 or 500 yards at a whitetail or a hog with a 4 x can be hard to place the shot where you want it.

    I don't think your friend hunts if that's the scope he suggested . I would look at something lower power starting at 3 X or 4 x at the most .

    You can look at a Bushnell elite tactical with the H59. It's a little more than $1200 but not much more. I would go and look through a Horus and see if it's what you want before making a purchase on line.

    For your SSG you won't need to extend it out like that . If are dead set on throw levers the AD-RECON - S or SL would work. But really I would go with two rings like this before I used throw levers on my bolt rifles. Scope Ring

    It's a cartridge where bad habits can develop , if you follow the fundamentals of good form and trigger control you will be fine. If possible send a few rounds down range and see if this is the cartridge you want to have extended shooting sessions with.

    Yeah not my first choice for a 1000 yard rifle but the .308 is capable of it , 300 win mag is a mother for new shooters though, If you go with a good brake it tames it quite a bit.
