    My first bolt action rifle!

Looks like a great start SPS-V is a good starting place. that was my first as well. I put mine in a 5R take-off stock and it was a good shooter. mine favored 168gr Hornady HPBT and Reloader 15 in LC cases. my only other locally available option was hornady SST hunting ammo which was decent.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Tactical handgun

Its a third generation glock 17 ive had for quite awhile now. The finger grooves were removed and the grip stippled by a buddy of mine. Added sights, the magwell, mag extensions, polished the internals, extended controls, and a lone wolf threaded barrel.

    Getting in to semi-auto .308

buddy of mine has a LWRC REPR and its a good rifle. not sure im a fan of the side charger though... I really liked the M14 family for a battle rifle. you may have experience with them in the service as they are still in use for SDM roles. For your budget, I would look into a M1A Scout, have...

    190gr in a 1:11.27 twist?

My mistake. not sure why I was thinking 11.27. they are listed as 11.25 at Bugholes... I am planning on testing out the 190gr Accubond Long Range when they are released this fall.

    190gr in a 1:11.27 twist?

im trying to get my build parts together and read something the other day that spoke about slower twists for better accuracy and mentioned using a 1:11 twist for 190s. has anyone else worked with this combo before? im planning to build a m24 contour 30-06. I am used to shooting 168gr smks...

    First Bolt $1200ish budget

wait until around tax time and you could probably pick up a used 30-06 maybe a little cheaper as well. deer season is gearing up now so I wouldn't bet on it right at the moment. if youre going to replace everything anyway, a used $300 30-06 will give you a nice long action to choose .308 or...

    Photos Dual Optic Mounts?

Can you guys who run dual optics, Like a scope and a red-dot in an offset mount, please post pics? I have been debating a 2.5-10x scope with a red dot offset like some run for 3 gun matches. I just haven't been able to find very many good pics.

    First Bolt $1200ish budget

the 5R will be great for your intended range. good solid stock and rifle. I have had 4 Remington 700s, including a 5R, and a savage. the savage just didn't feel the same as far as quality to me, others may have different experiences but I would get hands on multiple models if you can.

Hunting & Fishing Is the Rem 700 R5 going to be terrible for hunting?

I got used to a heavy-ish .308 and recently got a lightweight 30-06 with no recoil pad that I cant shoot for crap. gonna add a slip on for now but a heavy barrel and stock are in its near future. I will always run a 10-12lb rifle as that's what im confortable with. now I don't regularly hunt but...

Remington 700 Stock Options - Magwells Considered

why not look into a 5R or 700P take off stock? would be about the same cost as the B&C but I feel HS Precision is a bit better.

    Rifle Scopes Recce optic selection

with a majority of your shooting being long range like stated, sounds more like a SPR role than a Recce role. for an SPR role, I would mount the 2.5-10x nightforce you wanted and add the aimpoint H1 on a DD 1 o'clock mount. for a Recce role, I would be looking at the Super Sniper 1-6x FFP.

    hypothetical survivor question...

whichever you have would work in pure survival mode. in pure survival mode you don't want to be standing and fighting large groups of people so the semi-auto isn't totally necessary. you just have to adopt better field skills. I have a Remington 700 30-06 that I wouldn't question being alone...

Remington 700 Stock Options - Magwells Considered

I agree. I had a 10fcp-sr that I just sold nd replaced with another Remington 700. it was a decent shooter and had some good features but the stock was as bad as the Hogue youre wanting to replace and the action was gritty and the bolt felt loose compared to a Remington.

Remington 700 Stock Options - Magwells Considered

I would personally go with the m40 stock of the two. th traditional ramped shape rides a round bag pretty good. I like being able to roll it back and forth for elevation instead of squeezing. I will also agree that the DBM is nice to have. I have had only one on a savage rifle, factory Accurate...
