    Rifle fore-end on 16" middy

I really like the MI SS gen 2 hand guards. Have a 15" Ss on an 18" barreled upper, and just ordered a 10.5" SSK for a 12.5" SBR I'm building. THe SSK is especially nice because it comes with QD sockets, saving you having to buy an add on, and a single piece of rail, which you can use to attach...

Rifle Scopes 2.5-10 SFP IOR illuminated Scope or 3-9 Leupold patrol

I have both the VX-R patrol and an older FFP IOR 2.5-10 (the version with the capped turrets). The IOR has better glass and for sure a better reticle. Not the the VX-R has bad glass — it's actually very good for $500. My main complaint with the VX-R, and kind of a deal breaker for me, is that...

Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

Mac users: I have an iMac running Mac OS Mavericks (10.9) and an AB Kestrel with BlueTooth. I was able to successfully update the firmware and use the profile loader within a Windows 7 Pro virtual machine using Parallels Desktop 9. These are the steps I took: Pair the Kestrel with your Mac...

New build for the 6.5 Grendel Wildcat fans... 6mm Fat Rat

It sounds like the chamber is throated to so that when the Berger 105s are touching the lands, COAL is right at max mag length.

F T/R Competition Having too much fun with scales and dew points

I too am a fan of the GemPro. I use a Lee powder measure (so cheap, I have one for each caliber/load) and trickle with my fingers. I found that this was even faster than using the Omega. I used to use a Acculab VIC-123 -- the cheaper GemPro drifts less and my scores didn't get any worse when I...

F T/R Competition F-Open-if you were gonna build

My choice for F-Open mostly at 600 and sometimes at 1k would be the 6.5x47L. Very accurate, easy on the shoulder, straightforward to load, can still so OK at 1000. I normally shoot a .284 (now a variant thereof) at 1k but my best score at 1k was with my 6.5x47L that I normally shoot at 600 (I...

Gunsmithing cut VS. button rifled barrels..........the truth!

I have an 18" LW barrel in an Mk12 Mod 0 clone, and it is about a half-MOA capable barrel with my handloads and is easy to clean. No complaints there. I believe LW uses a different (and harder) steel than most other barrel makers -- they call it LW50. Consequently LW50 is supposed to last longer...

    Digital powder scale

I have Acculab VIC-123 which is the same scale, and paid about the same. I load for 1000 yard F-class shooting and the scale gave me low MV extreme spread and tighter vertical, but in my house it drifts like crazy. I replaced it with a Gempro 250 which can be had for $145 or so from Amazon...

Once fired "NT" headstamp .338 Lapua Mag. brass at Grafs

For those who shoot .338 Lapua: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/03/once-fired-lapua-made-338-lapua-magnum-brass-at-grafs/ Graf says it's re-labeled Lapua brass. I'm curious as to who these were for, and the "NT" headstamp.

Finally Finished new F T/R Build

Yeah, very nice gun. From what I can tell, most F-T/R shooters shoot 185g bullets to around 2750fps (compare M118LR, which is a 175g bullet going ~2650fps out of a 24" barrel), so a long throat and long barrel really helps.

Rifle Scopes Variable power mil/mil ffp for a rimfire

Agreed. Mine works fine on my tacticool Savage MkII, and you can't beat the price. The reticle is nicer than the straight mil-dot on the Primary Arms one too.

Custom .308 F-Class Rifle on Savage Action - Guide and Request for Input

I have a F-Open gun built around a right-bolt, left-port Savage action that has the SSS Evolution trigger and their time-and-true (mandatory with that trigger). It took me over 9 months from the time I paid for the action (less their services) to when I had it in my had. If you want an F/TR gun...

New Site Updates So far ...

It'd be great if the old forum were made available read-only, even if for a limited time, so that we could manually transfer or redo our watched topics, etc. (not asking the site to do it, but if I could refer to the old site I'd do it myself). Kinda like how when accurateshooter.com went to a...

    Why no 17 HMR semi-autos?

Re: Why no 17 HMR semi-autos? Remington had a 597 in .17 HMR bit recalled all the rifles. It seems the pressures generated was just too much for the rimfire semi-auto actions. Volquartsen makes one though (10/22 style action).
