    Re: Treat a New Garand Stock BLO First couple of coats cut 100% with Turpentine. Allow at least a day between coats, longer if you can. After the two coats plain BLO rubbed in with the heel of your hand. Be sure to chase off the excess otherwise it will get gummy.

    Re: needs of scope ring lapping ? I align the rings if 2 pc and then "print" them to check contact patterns. If it looks the least questionable they get lapped. Quality rings rarely need it. I feel that incorrect torqueing of the rings is responsible for more issues than unlapped rings.

    Re: barrel threading question If you just spin a standard die down it you stand a good chance of cutting the threads undersize. If your going to use a die use an adjustable die opened up and slowly adjust it until you get the fit you want. Best bet is to pick them up on a lathe.
