Range Report Ballistic Calc for iPad

I've been using Ballistic for years and it has always worked well. The iPad version uses the screen space well and the logging features have really improved over the years. In terms of ballistics calculators, these programs seem just about equal to me. You need to have good velocity data and use...

    Damn it!!

I did this for the first time ever just last month. A case didn't have enough lube and it got stuck in my RCBS die. I unscrewed the expander ball adjustment up top and that allowed the expander ball to fall into the case. I then used a drift punch from the top and a light tap from a hammer and...

Barrel break in proceedure: AIAX 260

Chances are that AI has already been proof fired for QA.

Electronic hearing protection is damaging your hearing (range report)

I always use disposable foam plugs and electronic muffs with the highest noise reduction rating I can find (Peltor Tactical Pro is one). A lot of electronic muffs do not have very high db reduction ratings. It is an imperfect measure, but gets you in the ballpark. I wouldn't use most electronic...

Barrel break in proceedure: AIAX 260

There is very little you can do to that rifle to hurt it. I just shoot it and it always works.

Barrel break in proceedure: AIAX 260

Barrel break-in is a myth. Just shoot it. Once the barrel gets some copper in it it will settle in until you go in there and strip the copper out. In which case you have to start over again. So IMO don't strip the copper out with heavy solvents and copper dissolvers. I have never once stripped...

H&K style sling hooks - why?

I have noticed the same problems with the hooks. I want to like them, but they are noisy and twist around making sling use harder. I just use simple swing swivels with a USGI sling and they work well. Something like this: http://www.grovtec.com/products_military.php

    Amsec, Fort Knox, Superior, others?

I also posted about this topic in the past here: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/showthread.php?t=26665&p=384528&viewfull=1#post384528 This is what I said and I still stand by it almost four years later:

    Amsec, Fort Knox, Superior, others?

Please don't move a safe yourself. Any decent one is going to be heavy and if they get away from you on a flight of stairs, etc. you can be injured or killed. I am a registered safe tech as a hobby of mine and even I don't go about moving safes myself. I know other safe techs with permanent...

    Amsec, Fort Knox, Superior, others?

Read what real safe crackers recommend: Graffunder at the high end and the Amsec BF for the value end. http://www.graffundersafes.com/doc/inside-graffunder.pdf The Amsec BF is a great deal in a gun safe. Real security and real fire protection at a good price.

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Glad to hear about your experience with Beretta USA. I was able to order spare parts from Brownell's pretty easily for the major things (like the trigger group and firing pin). I keep a spare firing pin with my TRG field kit and liked the fact that I could easily order it.

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

I have not handled an AX, but here are my questions/comments: I don't think the AX is 2lbs. lighter. The weight difference was reported as negligible. AI's website lists the rifle weights as the same. Unfortunately, they got rid of the spigot mount. The spigot is simple. I just plug the...

Brand New AIAW 26" 308 with Hensoldt 6-24x56

No need to touch the trigger. The AI triggers are great out of the box and don't need adjusting. They are set perfectly by the factory before they get to you. Yes. Call around and you'll find distributors that still have the old sides in stock. That is a beautiful rifle. Take it out and enjoy it!

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

The AI has surprisingly little I've seen written about something breaking on them. I think Lowlight sometimes talks about a broken bolt retention pin that happened after over 90,000 rounds on one AI at Rifle's Only. I just haven't seen or heard of much going wrong with them. I'm sure it does...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Thanks for the comments. I had written these notes over time and thought others would find them useful. I still own the TRG and still shoot it. The TRG has served me well and the lighter weight is welcome at times. The AW is the current favorite after much deliberation and it could be the TRG...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Yes that's a good point and quite possible. I'll edit my post. The grind marks on the firing pin are just ugly though on a rifle this expensive. A couple seconds on a buffer would do wonders. I don't know what kind of steel they are using. Does anyone have information on this?

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

I think that chassis mounted bipods (like the Sako and AI), are the way to go on these rifles. I tried using the Harris again recently on my AIAW and it tends to work loose. The pin mount just isn't as solid vs. the spigot mount. The Harris does beat the AI though in one area and that is the...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Thanks for the comments. Here are some follow-up photos that couldn't fit in the post. Close-up of the bonded AIAW action. It is perfectly fitted and machined and won't come loose outside of something catastrophic. Close-up of the AIAW firing pin. It is finely machined as well. The AIAW...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Sako TRG-22 in its natural habitat. Background I decided after 10 years of faithful service to upgrade my Remington Model 700P to a more modern action. This was mainly because I had become more interested in long range shooting and the stock 700P was reaching its limit in terms of what I...
