    ELD-X vs ELD-M

The ELD-X is a little more expensive than the ELD-M. In 178gr. .308 it is about $3 per box (43 vs. 40). The BCs are similar. Curious why they are more expensive. Same difference for a 6.5 (although the bullet weights are a little different - 143 for the ELD-X vs. 147 for the ELD-M).

    Trimmed Cases too short

Replaced the cutter and cases are trimming much more consistently!

    Trimmed Cases too short

Talked w/ Little Crow & they said that a bad cutter will cause this. They also said that all you have to do to get a burr on the cutter is to run it backwards. Not sure I understand this, but will get some new cutters & try again...

    Trimmed Cases too short

I have rechecked my headspace and the shoulder bump is spot on - all cases within 0.001" (vary from 1.624" to 1.625"). Not sure what else would cause variation but will call Little Crow to discuss. Thanks for the other explanations, that is what was going through my mind. Not ideal, but not...

    Trimmed Cases too short

I trimmed my .308cases too short. They are running between 1.995" to 2.002". The max case length is supposed to be 2.015" w/ a trim length of 2.005". I don't see this as a real issue but want to confirm. Also, I used a little crow case trimmer and did trim after FL sizing the cases. Not...

    Imperial Graphite Neck Lube

Just got some and want to start using. After seating the bullet do you just wipe the case off with a rag?

Used Too Small a Bushing & Neck is Undersize

Where did you get the mandrel set that goes up by 0.0005"?

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

I'll definitely try the graphite. Will still get a 0.004" larger bushing. Otherwise try my bushing die & see what happens.

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

Agreed. But its not like I'm going to get a 3-point ID mic like I use on bearing bores.

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

I tried lubbing the bullets w/ Hornady one shot, but apparently that did not do much. Maybe will run a brush inside case mouth w/ lube on it.

Used Too Small a Bushing & Neck is Undersize

I used a wrong size bushing in my Wilson Bushing type Full Length sizing die when loading my 6.5CM. There is about 0.005" neck tension on it. For details on how/why see: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/wilson-arbor-press-w-force-measurement.7230208/#post-11751443 Anyway when...

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

I cleaned wet w/ dawn using southern shine stainless media (does not dent like SS pins). I did not anneal. I usually anneal every third firing as I flame anneal and not induction anneal.

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

I agree w/ the 0.294 being the bushing I need to try. The Alpha brass was once fired & I did chamfer the inside of the case mouth. I purchased loaded ammo from Eagle Eye as I did not have any 6.5 CM brass. Just bothers me why measuring the OD of a loaded round and measuring brass thickness...

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

Agreed. Just do not understand why measuring the loaded round does not yield the same answer.

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

The diameter of a loaded round is 0.292". I used a 0.290" bushing figuring that would give me 0.002" neck tension. I measured a fired case and the diameter is 0.295". After sizing the diameter is 0.290" so there is no spring back I am using Alpha brass. The brass thickness is 0.0155". If...

Wilson Arbor Press w/ Force Measurement

I recently started using a Wilson bushing type full length sizing die along with their bullet seater. I also used the KM arbor press with force measurement. Loading 6.5 CM it took 150 lbs. to seat the bullet. Also, the bullet press was not smooth. I would pull the handle down and the bullet...

200 Yards Ok to Run a Ladder?

PRoblem is that to get meaningful SDs you need to shoot 10 rounds. 10 rounds per charge is a lot!

200 Yards Ok to Run a Ladder?

My goal is to develop 1000 yard loads. Even at 500 yards a 50 FPS variation results in 2.5" difference in trajectory (1/2 MOA). At shorter distances will measuring velocity be meaningful for finding a load that will have most stable velocity (i.e. least sensitive to charge variation). I...

200 Yards Ok to Run a Ladder?

I am developing a load for my 6.5 CM. Is 200 yards far enough to do a ladder test or what is the minimum distance.

    6.5 CM Bullet Comparator

I am beginning to load for 6.5 CM. My Hornady bullet comparator kit does not have an insert for 6.5 bullets. They have a #4 - .25 & #6 - .27. The kit indicates that there are six inserts which I have but there was no #5 which I'm guessing would be for the 6.5. I used the #4 - .25 and guess...
