I was surprised at how good the Norma brass has been. I typically run Lapua but they are not playing the short mag game yet, so I went with 100 pieces Norma. No culls, no complaints. That being said. I have emailed Lapua. They essentially said they have had lots of inquiries, especially on he 7...

Powder speed and barrel length play in. I did testing with mag primers and lots of spread in my ES and SD. I have found that I typically don’t have good luck with mag primers in anything shooting less than 70 grains of powder. Check or the article, similar findings to mine...

It shoots a little quick. My 180 load is 2930 single digit SD and ES. I’ll be shooting with a Labradar out to 1,300 in 2 weekends so I’ll post after that what we get on the LR for speed numbers.

28” Bartlein barrel. 65.5 grains of H-1000 WLR primer. Shot 20 through the chrono right after 20 7-08 140’s doing the same 2540 they always do out of my sons rifle. I’m sure there could be a viariance but it’s close. 64 grains was 2240, 64.5 was 2280, 65 was 3300, 65.5 was 3327, 66 was 3340. I...

Ok, my 180 load is great but I felt like I could get better luck with 162's, and WOW!!! I got a 162 ELD Match doing 3327 SD of 10. Shot same size group as the 180's averaging around .25 MOA @ 100. Shot a group at 820 yards shot right around .5 MOA at that distance. 90 couple degrees and 12mph...

    7 saum

Yeah a lot of people said it wasn't possible on the good old inter web. But talking to the gunsmith he said he had done several on a short action and they were getting 180's at 27-2800 on 24 and 26" barrels. Thats why I went with 28" barrel, try to utilize the extra tube to get a slower burning...

    300 RSAUM vs 300 WSM

Norma and Nosler both make SAUM brass. I but it by the 100 lots with no problem. WSM brass is about impossible to find in 7mm. Things do change in 14 years. lol.

    Which Cartridge for the 7mm 180gr ELD-M?

7 SAUM would be my recommendation. Im running the SAUM on a short action. 28" Bartlett barrel 8 twist. I use Norma Brass, Nosler also makes brass for it. (Didn't go WSM because there is no real availability of 7 WSM brass and I don't like the fire forming and trimming game) I'm getting 2950 fps...

    7-300 Win Mag

If your gonna have a Smith do the barreled action get with Alamo Precision Rifles. Hey have a 300/7 with blow out walls and a better shoulder. They have dies too I believe. They are calling it the 7 APR. I was gonna have them build be one but I stayed short action and they did a 7 SAUM for me.

Exactly. I don’t plan on going under 300 again unless for some reason I have to change scope or something and need to zero again. I’m guessing I’ve only got 1,500 before new barrel so need to use them wisely.

It was in the first post. .17-.24 MOA at 100.

I’m sure you won’t have a problem. I read a lot about people getting loads shooting really good really easily. Not sure if it’s just my barrel or what. But almost every load from 59-63 grains shot better than 1/2 moa .05-.01 jump and no big viariance in group size. Getting a load dialed was...

    7mm SLR?

7 SAUM. Just finished my build. Stinging 180’s at 2900+ with single digit SD’s and .25 MOA accuracy. Norma and I slept both make brass as well. Dies aren’t crazy wildcat expensive. Edit: just saw the bolt face sentence. Sorry. My vote for that would be 7-08 AI

I cut it close on barrel. I really wanted 30” but I used a dowel rod and some weights and simulated how heavy barrel was going to be. I ended up going 28” and in a traditional tactical stock type of rifle the barrel at 28” is at almost perfectly balenced which I actually don’t like. It feels...

Also. No pressure signs at all. Primers look perfect. No hevy handle. No extractor marks. Primers all had tension when depriming before I tumbled them. I’ll keep updated on how next cycle goes.

If it is, it is just barely. I can feel no crunch at all and no push back. But here was one time I’m pretty sure I felt it crunch a little. But that was in virgin brass. So next loading might change a tad on that.
