Re: Considering getting into long range shooting... Sorry Greg, looking back at my post it looks like I was pinpointing you since I mentioned the 280 but I really wasn't. I very much agree with you especially on the $5K limit for the OP, there's lots of ways he can go with that and not go...

Considering getting into long range shooting...

Re: Considering getting into long range shooting... If you'll read the whole thread, you'll see he's decided to go with a bolt gun. It has always cracked me up to hear people say the .308 is a LR chambering for beginners. They will admit in one sentence that it is at its supersonic limit at...

Considering getting into long range shooting...

Re: Considering getting into long range shooting... Thanks for your service brother. Its hard to beat the Remmy 700's or Savage's if you get a good one, which is not that hard to do but there is a chance you wont as is the case with every factory rifle. Believe it or not, I've shot .5 moa...

Re: DPMS LR-308 Accuracy (Reloading) I'm actually with Sterling on this...I dont understand your concern w POI change between bullets. Different profiles, different weights cause different flight....and thats not even concidering what you're doin behind the rifle. Pick the one that groups...

    AR-10 Recoil question.

Re: AR-10 Recoil question. I think the OP said he was shooting reloads but that he had the same problem with FGMM. I dont know about FGMM out of an AR10 but changing my reloads COAL from 2.810 to 2.820 out of my long factory chambered LTR with 178 Amax's droped POI 1 moa. Group size...

    AR-10 Recoil question.

Re: AR-10 Recoil question. Warbone, have you found your problem yet? If not, does your rifle have M4 type feed ramps? If it dosn't, opening them up to that type might solve your problem. M4 feed ramps seem to make the cartrage chaimber much easier. Good luck. okie

    How much better is custom?

Re: How much better is custom? My point was: 175 gr bullet @ 2700 fps = 638 ft/lbs energy @ 1k yrds = not near enough. Hell, the 1300+ ft/lbs it would have at 500 isnt enough. okie

    How much better is custom?

Re: How much better is custom? .308 hunting loads running 3000 fps? You guys need to wake up and check back into reality. Even IF that where possible and IF the animal stood stone cold still, at 1K the bullets enery would be way below what you need to effectivly take large game. Equals...

Re: How much better is custom? Please brother, continue with your research, you're not there yet. If you think you can hunt Elk at 1k with a .308, I hope you have some serious tracking skills because you're gonna wound and loose a lot of animals and sentence them to a slow agonizing death...

    AR-10 Recoil question.

Re: AR-10 Recoil question. It takes time for pressure to build and to release. It takes time for pressure to move from one area to another. It takes even more time for mechanical things to move as a result of pressure. At 2600 fps a bullet is clear of a 24" barrel in 1/1300th of a second...

Re: AR-10 Recoil question. Hard to say whats giveing you problems without seeing ya shoot but I'd say you've gotten pretty good advice here from some. Keep the rifle in tight to your sholder without getting stressed and stay there while eveything settles after the shot. Speed will come...
