Rifle Scopes Shooting techniques with imperfect vision

Re: Shooting techniques with imperfect vision I'm in the same boat, but I'm in the mid "fifties," so it's not much of a surprise. Behind the rifle, I dial the scope's diopter adjustment so I can see the reticle crisply without glasses. I find it vastly better to shoot without eye protection...

Rifle Scopes question on mil system calculation

Re: question on mil system calculation Or you could do what I recently did for a beginner's class. Just make yourself a "mil ruler." I took a piece of heavy target paper, inscribed .36" hash marks along the edge, and then labeled them with their various values at 100, 200 and 300 hundred...

Advanced Marksmanship crazy shots!!!! lets hear about them...

Re: crazy shots!!!! lets hear about them... Used to shoot with a bunch of fellow neer-do-wells out in the desert. 200 yards from our favorite camp was a steel round about the size of a 55 gallon drum lid. We could all beat it up pretty steadily with a .45 1911. One trip, I climbed a hill...

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 lockup or the lack thereof.

Re: 1911 lockup or the lack thereof. Griffin- Good response, "About as much fun as shooting a shotgun." I hear you on that! Everybody used to weld up the lower barrel lugs, but you can warp them. I have a friend who has done a few of them. The result is not pretty, but they do shoot better...

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 lockup or the lack thereof.

Re: 1911 lockup or the lack thereof. I've seen several methods for inducing the barrel to set lower in the slide and make contact with the slide stop. All of them share the same problem, in that you are reducing the already very minimal barrel lug engagement with the slide. Not a good idea...

Advanced Marksmanship Article in Guns Magazine about Thunder Ranch HART

Re: Article in Guns Magazine about Thunder Ranch HART Don't forget that authors don't get to set captions. Authors are asked to submit captions with photos, but their suggested captions are often not selected for reason of space, lack of clarity, etc. This task falls to the editor, or...

Vortex Razor w/ Mil Ret VS. Leupold MK4 w/ TMR?

Re: Vortex Razor w/ Mil Ret VS. Leupold MK4 w/ TMR? The wife and I purchased the Vortex, and used it last year at Gunsite, where milling UKD targets was the order of the day. We were completely satisfied with its performance. Yes, it's heavy, but doesn't feel excessively so when stowed in...

Gunsmithing 1911 Front sight staking options

Re: 1911 Front sight staking options JACQ- Hmm, don't think I ever had to stake one of the fiber optic type, although I cut a lot of dovetails for those. If I had to do it, I might look at milling out a slip fit block to place over the front sight. Just something to better control where...

Gunsmithing 1911 Front sight staking options

Re: 1911 Front sight staking options The "old style" tool does all that you need. I have never seen one of my staked-in sights come loose. The secret is grinding a suitable "countersink" on the underside of the slide, so that you can fill it with all or nearly all of the front sight tang...

Rifle Scopes "New" IOR Scopes, Input/Reviews

Re: "New" IOR Scopes, Input/Reviews Howdy- I have one of the newest 3.5-18 models, and I'm very pleased. The new digital illumination is great, and yes, the glass quality makes me feel a little sorry for the Nightforce on my main rifle. My only gripe is the coarse reticle. It needs to be at...

Whats the best powder for 75gr 5.56

Re: Whats the best powder for 75gr 5.56 Second the recommendation for AA2520 in the .223. I load the 75 grain A-Max in the wife's Tikka, and It has performed very well. She was hitting past 800 with it at Gunsite. Believe my charge was 24.0 in Winchester brass, but I had to drop it a bit...

Rifle Scopes Best Scope covers for Nightforce

Re: Best Scope covers for Nightforce Darren- Do you have a size or sku number for the alumina cover you are using? Between my wife and I, we've already broken two sets of the BC caps, and none of the four sets we've used in the past year have fit worth a darn. Thanks for any info...

    Righty tighty...

Attended a class some weekends ago. We actually did very little shooting, as the weather was poor, and there was much classroom info to cover. In fact, I fired only 14 rounds. The first five were flown over the chrono with no target. The second five were fired at 100 yards to check zero, and...

any one play Modern Warfare 3 if so..

Re: any one play Modern Warfare 3 if so.. I'm a guilty partaker of this game, as well as its predecessors. No, the game doesn't "define me," it's just a fun amusement for the long hours when I can't sleep, or as an after work stress reliever. Perhaps we'll cross paths. I'm "JTFIXER" on...

Hunting & Fishing Which knife sharpener do you use for hunting?
