    .260 and Varget

My go to load is 41.3/Varget behind a 123 gr. SMK, Lapua brass, Fed 210M. The bullets are Boron Nitride treated. I average 2976 f.p.s. out of a 25" tube. This stays supersonic to about 1325 yds. I have had good luck shooting out to 1k yds. which is as far as I have tried it. It averages about .4...

    Seating depth

Most all of my accurate rifles like 20-40 thousanths jump. I have yet to have a rifle that shoots best with the bullet touching the lands although one of my friends who reloads a lot has one that shoots good touching. Don't expect a dramatic improvement in group size by varying bullet jump.

Bright ring question...pressure or something else? (yes, with picture)

I have had several head separations and incipient head separations over the years and I have never seen one that has a perfectly concentric ring. The reason is that the taper of the brass at the body to head juncture varies in wall thickness at any fixed distance from the head. A perfectly...

260 shooters/Builders. What Freebore are you running? Any Beanland 260's?

My loaded rounds using Lapua brass mike .294-.2945 at the neck. A chamber neck of .298 should be fine. I asked Jon about having a slightly tighter chamber neck and he did not recommend it for tactical rifle. I can not see what the problem is.

260 shooters/Builders. What Freebore are you running? Any Beanland 260's?

Jon built my 260 tactical rifle last year. He used what he called a Lapua reamer which has a .298 neck and .088 freebore. the barrel is a Kreiger standard Palma in 8.5 twist finished at 25". My good loads were as follows: Lapua brass and Fed 210m primers for each. 139 Scenar, 42.7/H4350. .080...

    Big Horn action

I have a first generation Big Horn on my 260 tactical build which I have had for about 18 months and 1900 rounds. It is absolutely top quality and much smoother to operate than my Stiller TAC 30 and Remington 700s. My 5 shot groups average about .3 MOA using a standard Palma contour barrel. I...

    PTG stealth bottom metal $75.00

I have run one for about 18 months on my competition rifle. I have no complaints.

A Beanland build in my future....

Jon built me a 260 using the Bighorn and a Krieger Med. Palma and a McMillian A-5. I use it for tactical competitions. It averages about .375 MOA for five shot groups. For a relatively light barrel it shoots very well. I am completely satisfied with the rifle and Jon's work. Jon does not like 5...

Case head seperation or chamber marks.

This is definitely not case head separation. A case head separation shows up as a slightly irregular ring approximately 3/8" above the head. The reason it is irregular is that the brass is not of uniform thickness at any one set distance above the head therefore the stretch mark varies in...

    ##Cooling Method for barrels##

I would not fool with water down the barrel at a match. I do this at my range when I want to test a lot of loads in a short period of time. Heat and pressure are the enemies of barrel life. I can control the heat. If you don't like this method then don't do it. It works for me and I have had no...

    ##Cooling Method for barrels##

I keep a Thermos of ice water, a six ounce squirt bottle, bore guide, cleaning rod and patches handy. If I want to shoot a lot of rounds quickly I usually shoot 10 then squirt about 6 oz. of ice water down the bore using the bore guide, then run three dry patches down the barrel. Vary the amount...

    260 Loads Only

If you want a load using Varget try this. 123 SMK, 41.3/Varget, Lapua brass, Fed 210M. The bullets are Boron Nitride coated so It takes about .5 gr. more powder to achieve the same velocity as with an uncoated bullet. I get 3001 fps in a 25" barrel bolt gun. The brass is on the ninth loading...

mounting a bipod on a Seekins rail

I was not aware that other companies made them. My main concern is whether or not the soft bedding strips on the Harris have a good contact area with the stock. In other words, is the rail itself going to interfere with the Harris fitting the stock?

    260 reamer and lapua brass

Most likely. My loaded 260 rounds using Lapua mike .2935-.2945. Not even room for a speck of grit. Too bad because Lapua is usually so consistent that neck turning is not helpful except for the benchrest crowd. My chamber was cut using a PTG Lapua reamer that is .298. It groups great. My...

mounting a bipod on a Seekins rail

Can I successfully mount a Harris bipod on a Picitinny rail using a swivel stud adapter such as the Uncle Mike's?

    Competitions and Rifle Cleaning

At least for tactical shooting if not all shooting cleaning has been, now is, and probably will be forever over rated. Shoot it and enjoy it, wear it out and buy another one. I have had to clean a factory barrel several times to retain accuracy but not a good custom barrel.
