    whidden bullet pointing kit

Oww, that doesn't say much for pointing. Something occurred to me last week while I was pointing 1000 77gn SMKs. If I get greedy and try to reduce the Meplat too much, it messes with the Ogive of the bullet by causing to to bulge. I would think that Sierra arrived at the exact Ogive to give...

    LC Brass sorting???

That's interesting. I sort my LC brass into .1gn groups, but I never would have guessed that different years shoot differently. Why do you think that is, inconsistency in the hardness of the brass? In any event, I eliminated that as a variable in my competition stuff by getting 1000 virgin...

MK262 clone 77Grain 5.56 load problems / updated OCW tests

Every setup is different, but I would think you are safe at 23.8gn of varget. I run my 77gn SMKs in front of 25.0gn of Varget, from LC11 brass and have no pressure signs. It is not just words to say every setup is different. Some things that could change the equation include: my LaRue has a...

MK262 clone 77Grain 5.56 load problems / updated OCW tests

It might be for reliable feeding. The SAMMI length is 2.26 which is only 0.015 longer (the thickness of four sheets of copier paper) Back when I was loading for magazine length, I occasionally had one fail to feed because it got cocked in the magazine and got stuck. If you are more concerned...

    LC Brass sorting???

I'm shooting a 5.56 OBR w/ 20" barrel. I'm not a great shot yet, but a friend of my son shot it with my handmade ammo and his first five shots grouped at .72" at 200yd (.36 MOA)

MK262 clone 77Grain 5.56 load problems / updated OCW tests

It may be because I am not loading to magazine length. My competitions (F/TR) are all shot single shot, so my OAL is way out at 2.336. Also, I use a 5" drop tube. I did have a problem with fitting my charge into a Lapua case, but I switched to LC11. I only use .002 of neck tension and do not...

    Keeping your powder dry!

Wow, you could've knocked me down with a... I learned something there. That certainly doesn't seem intuitive. In fact, it reminds me of a Mythbusters episode where they disproved the myth about cell phones being able to ignite gasoline vapors. They even went to the extent of building a...

???????????????????????????The Meplat is on the bullet and is the only trimming I have ever heard of on bullets. Is there another place to trim on bullets?

    LC Brass sorting???

After going through the "sorting of LC brass by year" stage, I bought 100 Lapua cases and found that they had too low of a capacity for what I was aiming for (MK 262) at the time. I had been achieving MK 262 velocities (2850 in my understanding) with assorted LC brass with 26.2gn Varget. That is...

    Beam vs. Digital scales

I hear what you're saying; however, I also have a Chargemaster and that .1gn figure is on a good day, not to mention drifting with time. I use my Chargemaster as the first step before feeding it to a Sartorius GD503 Magnetic Force Restoration scale (Yes, I'm CDO, that's like OCD but the letters...

    whidden bullet pointing kit

I have no experience with the meplat trimmer, but when I picked up my spotting scope stand, Doug showed me how the meplat trimmer works and it looks pretty solid. Like you, I have noticed that everything about Giraud Tool Co. is first class. I would be willing to bet that the meplat trimmer...

    Keeping your powder dry!

I have to admit I have no personal experience with it. It just seems that EVERY tool I have says not to use it with black powder. I just figured that it was easy to ignite. So a static electric spark will not set it off? My bad.

    Keeping your powder dry!

Don't forget that primers are considered explosive! You shouldn't have any problems with humidity at 45%. I would keep them in the original packing material only. If for any reason, one went off in the ammo can and set the rest off (such as in a house fire) instead of having a bunch of pops...

    Keeping your powder dry!

I would think you are good around 50% humidity. Be careful about getting it too dry, you might induce a static electricity problem. That will mess with your electronic scales, could cause powder to hang up in things like your powder loading funnel, and worst case, if you by any chance happen...

%%Primer Detonation with Impact Bullet Puller!%%

Ding, Ding, Ding, I think we have a winner! ZY, I believe you figured it out! Yes, I tumble my brass in SS media, and had noticed that a small, but regular percentage of the brass had pins stuck in the flash hole. In fact, I recently switched to a larger diameter SS media to prevent that from...

How do you guys deprime pre tumble?

One thing that I've had pretty good luck with that might save you some time over Imperial Die Wax (which is a very good product), is to use Hornady One Shot case lube in the pump sprayer. I put 70 5.56 cases in an aluminum foil baking pan (disposable, but I have been using the same one for 6...

I've had pretty good luck using rubbing alcohol on the rag.

    Sinclair meplat trimmer = junk?

I believe that is the recommended method anyway. Put a bullet in, loosen the set screw, put a feeler gauge in-between the handle and the main body, retighten the set screw and you're good to go.

    Sinclair meplat trimmer = junk?

+1 on the Hoover, I'm happy with mine, and also with their bullet pointing die.
