Introducing the BASE CPS - Competition Primer Seater

Wow, I bet these will sell out quick.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Why you DON'T like Sig.

Sig makes a very high quality gun. Very high. But, they feel very top heavy to me and fit high in the hand with a high bore center. My grip disables the slide lockback feature.

    HellCat !!!

Back on topic: Hellcat Challenger MSRP is $59,995, goes 0-60 in the "mid 3s", and goes 199mph. 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will hit 199 mph, burn 1.5 gallons per minute [UPDATE] - Autoblog The article references the 1/4 mile times of 11.2 on OEM tires and 10.8 on drag radials. I...

    Using a 308 case gauge for 7mm-08?

Actually 270/280/3006 isn't as straight forward as the 308 family...mainly because there was never a SAAMI recognized 270-08 chambering. See, a 308 cartridge simply won't fit in a 7mm08 chamber, so there's no danger in a mixup. A 7mm08 cartridge fired in a 308 chamber isn't dangerous either...

    Max load questions.

I've always found it easier to find a great shooting load towards the top end. Always more difficult ( for me) to get a load tuned in that's weaker.

Anyone ever get nervous pulling the trigger on your first ever re-loads?

You're supposed to be nervous. That indicates you are cognizant of the risks and danger, which is good motivation to pay attention to wtf you're doing and why you're doing it that way. I've no doubt you have a long and prosperous reloading career ahead of you.

    8 vs 8.5 twist for 6.5 mm

Because less twist (provided you are certainly stabilizing the projectile) has several advantages, most notably - less inaccuracy due to bullet imbalance. The 6.5 SAUM achieves way WAY more than enough speed to get very ample stability factors, even with an 8.75+ twist barrel. There is no...

    Using a 308 case gauge for 7mm-08?

Yep, will work fine as body and headspace dimensions of 243/260/7mm08/308/338Fed/358Win are all the same. Be aware case overall length varies amongst these, however. Also, the 280 cartridge is not in this same family. It is in the 30-06 family.

My Savage Mark 2 FVSR project...

Here is a little "Pro-tip" for smoothing/polishing the faces of the bolt that turn against eachother on these actions. Once you disassemble the bolt, you will have a front half and a rear half. One side has a boss on it that engages into the other half - and they will rotate relative to one...

Gunsmithing Chamber reamers and tooling makers?

Regurgitating what I seem to have concluded from gunsmiths: Henrikson are *the* best - but you do a lot of paying and a lot of waiting JGS - awesome but you still do a lot of paying and a lot of waiting Manson - excellent product, less paying and less waiting PTG - usually a good...

    Leupold Mk4 spotter, H32 vs H36?

I got the H32 because I didn't have any interest in the cockamamie ranging scale off the side of the H36. I bought the inverted version with intent to mount it Spotter 45/60 style but as yet haven't gotten around to it. In practice, I love it. I actually prefer the grid up above rather than...

    HellCat !!!

Not many Subaru's out there that'll run with this new car. They exist, but not many pimply faced teens have them. The new SRTs have a great launch control system. Good drag radials makes a 1.8 second 60' time possible by a monkey.

240 weatherby brass to 6 cm?

240 Weatherby is indeed a belted case, and the answer is no - it can't be used to form 6 Creedmoor (or 6 Comp Match for that matter). If you want to form 6 Creedmoor, start with Lapua 22-250 or 308.

    Can't decide! Which bullet!

My experience has been the 168smk is the easiest bullet to get shooting well I've ever used regardless of caliber. Not to say the 155s and 175s don't also shoot well, but the 168s are just extremely insensitive to seating depth and charge. I don't think I've ever had a "bad" load with 168s...

Where has the .260 Rem brass gone?

You've been necking up .243 Lapua to 6.5mm? No donuts? Every time I've ever necked up Lapua, I've gotten a donut - though I've never used .243.

    HellCat !!!

I don't know what the F/R weight distribution of the new 6.2L blown hemi challenger is, though I highly doubt it's 60/40. Regardless, who claimed it is unstable? I've driven the 2011-2014 Challengers, Chargers and 300s (all same platform) extensively. Yes they're big heavy cars, but they ride...

Where has the .260 Rem brass gone?

Once fired factory loaded Lapua 260 brass should fetch ~75¢ a piece around here, so factor that into your "actual cost" calculations. I'd bet anything in my safe there's a forum member from your area that'd gladly mentor you in reloading.

    HellCat !!!

I've not driven the recent camaros, but the 6.4L and 6.2L Challengers have a very aggressive note. The 2014 and 2015 models have minimal mufflers and electric exhaust valves tuned to keep them quiet enough to pass federal pass by noise regulations. Regardless, you can buy lots of different...

    HellCat !!!

Agreed. While E85 as a "common place" motor fuel is a boondoggle clusterfuck, it makes for awesome race gas.
