    3.4 Mile Shot

    3.4 miles....I think that works out to almost 6000 yards. That's amazing. Now I feel vindicated shooting the 308 out to 1 mile.....grin

    308 Beyond 1K YARDS

    These are my 308s. Both are plussed-up Rem 700 Varmint LH. I added the goodies from McMillan, Timney, Badger Ordnance. The 20.5" wears the HTG stock, 40 MOA Nightforce base, 10X SWFA. The 22" wears the A5 stock, 45 MOA Badger Ord base, 12X SWFA.

    308 Beyond 1K YARDS

    I've shot the 220gr SMK with good results. The 220 SMK is a bit shorter than the 208 Amax, roughly 1.48" vs 1.53". Also shot the 215 Berger. In the 20.5" 308, results were not that good, about 1.5 moa at 100 yards. Through the 22" 308 it was sub-moa, and held stability/accuracy to 1500+...

    It's 3.10" OAL. About .010" off the lands. I'm loading 48.0gr RL-17, getting 2580 fps from a 20.5" barrel. Factory 1/12 Rem 700 Varmint barrel with that long throat.

    I choose to roll heavy. Bigger splash to see out there, and reduced wind drift and long supersonic range with that high BC. I give up magazine loading with this load. That's a concession I'm willing to make.

    I'm not currently shooting the 155 Scenar, but a few years back I did buy 1000 of them from Powder Valley and shot all of them through the 308s. In my experiences, the published BC of .508 seemed a little high. I found using .460 lined my trajectory up with my trajectory table very accurately...

    Is this excessive pitting for ar500?

    My AR500 looks about the same, shooting 5.56 at 100 yards. If I want to go easier on the steel up close, I throw on the 7.62x39 upper.

    VSP968, that's a fantastic 30-06! I'm still here, but not contributing as much as I used to. Mostly just looking at the Motivational Pictures Thread. Yeah, the Scout thing was kind of weird, I pretty much stayed off the forum during that time.

    I've tried the 155 Scenar at 2950 fps. It's accurate and gets out there well past 1K yards in the 1/12, but compared to the 208, the 155 Scenar gets pushed around by the wind a lot more than the 208.

    Here's a couple targets shooting the 208 through the 1/12 twist barrel. 100 yards, 10 rounds. .65" center to center. 1120 yards, consistent hits after a wind correction. black square is 5x5"

    I shoot the 208 Amax out of my 1/12 Rem factory barrels. 3.10" oal kisses lands in that long throat. 48 gr RL17 in milsurp brass gives 2580 fps from a 20.5" bbl. Here at 4000' el, it is pretty consistent out to 1400-1500 yards. SWFA 10X on a 40 moa Nightforce base provides useable 30 mils...

    30-06 still relevant?

    I'm looking at upping my game to the 225gr ELD, and RL-26. Looks like 2625 fps at about 60K psi is realistic in my 22.5" barrel. That would hold 1200 fps out to 1900 yards in local atmo.

    Keeping the government shut down.

    What this really is, is a case of Dereliction of Duty, on the part of our congress-critters. It is their constitutional duty to put forth a working budget, and they will not. The low level govt employees should not be the ones to feel the pain. Our dear Reps and Senators should each be fined...
