Any thoughts on my drop in velocity?

If you changed lots of Varget then that's the culprit IF you confirmed that your velocity is off. Varget is very inconsistent from lot to lot. If the velocity is the same then its a gun issue.

Long range Remington 700 AAC-SD .308 owners / reloaders , on 1000 yard quest. your load

Once you get a load, go to JBM ballistics site and see what kind of velocity you have left at 1000k. I can tell you that it will be quite tough to accomplish with a 20" barrel. On the plus side is that the throat is very long so you can seat bullets way out to increase capacity. Provided you...

.223 1/7.7 twist 24'' barrel bolt gun loads IDEAS ??? Help

There is lots and lots of data available. Try 24-24.5g RL15, REM 7 1/2, seat BERGERs .02 off and .02 INTO lands and see what happens.

    Necking down .308 brass

LC brass is tough and thick. FC Brass is very soft and thick. More then likely you will have to neck turn even .308 to 7-08 after you trim it down. I don't know, but I suspect that BHA brass is not made by them, its just their head stamp, and that its WINCHESTER but i'm not sure, so you...

    Necking down .308 brass

7-08 is easy. You can probably go from .308 to 6.5-08, AKA .260 rem in one pass with proper lube. .243 is doable I think but you would need an intermediate step die like a 7 or 6.5-08 FL size die. You will almost assuredly have to neck turn the .243 brass and possibly the 6.5 brass depending...

    Frustrating!

I have to assume that you are shooting at 100 YDS. I also have to assume you are shooting 3 or 5 round groups; a 10 round group would show you a much more realistic idea of how that load shoots along with some chronograph data. 1.025 is close enough to call it 1 MOA, or 4" at 400 yds which is...

    Ceramic paste huh?!?

Interesting. On the M242, 25MM bushmaster cannon the cyclic rate is electronically controlled so ammunition has no effect. This sounds interesting but I would have thought that the medium would be non abrasive, I think ceramic is abrasive. I could see where the groves on a solid bullet would...

    .45 ACP reloading issue

There is no shot that you loaded bullets intended for a .44 mag is there? They would have canalure grooves.

drop change 1g, go shoot and see what happens. Remember that this is a factory barrel and not a Krieger etc. and as such as limitations.

    .308 VLD's in the AR-10?

RL-15 and VARGET are both good choices for .308 w. 175g bullets. I would stick w. the varget. 0.1" decrease seating depth into the case is worth about 1g of powder of so. Crono you loads and you will know. Everything is telling me that 46g varget with a 175 is too hot as 45g is a hot load...

    New powder clumping?

High SD is more likely a primer or brass sorting/ prep issue.

    Headspace Question

Don't worry about bumping below SAMMI minimum. It is more likely that your brass is expanding to fill the chamber and springing back a little smaller than the actual chamber dimension. As such this can create the illusion of an under-spec chamber. An under spec length chamber is NOT an issue...

    COAL question on .308 700p

years ago I had a win M70 HV with a long throat. I was shooting 155g 2155's in it. There was little bullet in the case but a stout charge of N135 was enough to shoot a 193/200 and 194/200 at 1K at Perry that year. I only had standard dies at the time and did not prep the brass well to reduce...

    .308 load development results--opinions needed

If your not shooting past 600 yds then you have plenty of velocity. More realistically I am confident that 43g will 175g sierra supersonic at 800. Possibly a 168g to 800 but that will be pushing it. Past 800 is when the wheels start to come off.

    .308 VLD's in the AR-10?

There are no issues with VLD bullets in a semi auto at all provided they shoot well. Most semi autos are set up for mag length bullets so you will likely have to seat the 175's so they are longer then mag length and single load them. Try .020 off and .020 into the lands and see what happens...

Where are we at in OTM vs Poly Tip?

Provided we are not talking about terminal ballistics I think that the basic idea is that with a plastic tip bullet you can produce a sharp point and maximize BC. I believe the length of the bullets should be more consistent with the tip. While I think, but i'm not sure, its likely easier to...

Factory R700 LA: Very long throat or my imagination?

I would not worry about it too much and stay away from the bullets with short bearing surfaces. The 180 and 190g bullets have long bearing surfaces if the 175's don't shoot well loaded short. Seat the bullets so the base of the bullet is at the base of the neck or a little below that and go...

    .308 load development results--opinions needed

The best way to assess a load would be to shoot it at distance. This causes some problems as you introduce environmental factors. While it not should all that different, a 5 round group has 20% more bullets then a 4 round group, as such when you go from a 3 to a 5 to a 10 round group the...
