Gunsmithing Trying to match barreled action color to AICS FDE

The Cerakote match is H-250 A.I. Dark Earth. Its a very close match, but the issue your going to run into with any color is that sheen/luminocity matter and the sheen on the AX chassis plastic will be different from the sheen of H-250 applied to metal, no matter how you mix it. Which is why I...

Nemo Rifles: Considering becoming a dealer

The Omen is a very high quality rifle and they are very accurate. They have been well recieved by the SF community and I have done the Cerakote work on a number of them for current SF personnel and have one in the shop now for one who is currently deployed in Afghanistan. There has been...

    Gunsmithing 1911 work questions

You dont need to over lube a 1911. Few drops on the rails and a very light film on the barrel/bushing and your good to go. Even on stock guns the fit can be too tight on some guns. On the assembly line they just grab parts and put them together and dont bother to do a lot of detailed fitting...

    Gunsmithing 1911 work questions

There are several possible causes and more info would be needed to properly diagnose the cause. However, production 1911's are assembled with drop-in parts, rather than fitted parts. That goes for the barrels and bushings and a fit that is jsut a bit too tight can cause malfunctions as the...

Gunsmithing Cerakote Armor Black vs. Graphite Black

Graphite Black is just a color and contains no graphite. Cerakote H-Series does have a lower friction co-efficient, 80% less than stainless against stainless, but the main issue in coating things like bolts, barrels and bushings, AR BCG's,etc is that Cerakote H-Series has a nominal surface...

Gunsmithing Cerakote Armor Black vs. Graphite Black

Each of the Cerakote H-Series colors has gloss factor range, which is repesented by a "Gloss Units" metric. The mix ratios range from 12:1 to 24:1 and the mix determines the gloss units within the range for that color. Graphite Black has a Gloss Unit (GU) range of 1.7 to 11.8 with 12:1 =11.8...

Gunsmithing Paint to match Sako phosphate gray finish

Sniper Grey or Stone Grey done in a flat sheen (H-Series) will be the closest matches. Somtimes a custom mix of the two is needed to get the best match.

    Gunsmithing GAP-10 Cerakote

The short answer is No. Since Cerakote is highly chemical resistant, the only way to effectivle remove it is by media blasting (aluminum oxide), which would damage the unerlying anodizing, no way around it. Your best option would be the trade, as even anodizing varies from procesor to...

Gunsmithing any tips on de-greasing an AK for cerakote?

Soak in brake cleaner or equivlent overnight. Your pre-bake needs to be at 350 for about 90 min. Re-soak for two hours then bake again at 350. Have coated several hundred AK's of all verities, some are worse than others and require more cycles.

The short stroke king (Please Help)

On that barrel with that gas block the gas block should be about 1/32 of an inch out from the shoulder to properly line up with the gas port. if you have it all the way against the sholder then you are obscuring about half the gas port, so you will still have a carbon trace, but that wont telll...

As an example, in the ASTM B118 Salt Spray tests SBN in various forms had onset of rust within 200 hours and substatial rust by 400 hours. Gunsmithing Cerakoting and Nitriding?

I've done Cerakote finishing on many Defiance actions and they are indeed very tight on their tolerances, relative to Rem 700's and some others and do require some extra care and effort in coating to accommodate. However, they are coated all the time with no binding issues when done correctly...
