    Lightweight AR 15 barrels

Re: Lightweight AR 15 barrels I built a lightweight 18" barrel for my coyote rifle with a .675" diameter gas block and a tapered barrel under the handguards...it is a flyweight and I was pleasantly suprised with the accuracy as it shoots at about 3/4 MOA. The barrel was a button rifled Rock...

Gunsmithing Need Chamber Recommendation For 308 AR Type Rifle

Re: Need Chamber Recommendation For 308 AR Type Rifle I talked to Kiff about that exact subject, and without reservation he told me the 308 Tactical Match reamer was the one I wanted so that's the one I used. It has worked very well so far in both AR10's and bolt guns.

So Im thinking about a precision AR-10.....

Re: So Im thinking about a precision AR-10..... The biggest difference would be the barrel. When I build a precision AR15/10 I start with a custom cut-rifled barrel..mostly Rock Creek or Brux and I use a precision machined barrel extension and thread, chamber, and contour the barrel myself...

MOA from lightweight 16" AR barrel?

Re: MOA from lightweight 16" AR barrel? I built a lightweight upper for a coyote rifle a few years ago on a Rock bbl. I turned it down to 18" with a .675" gas block and tapered the barrel under the free float tube (RRA mid-length). It's about the lightest I've made and it honestly suprised...

getting more out of an AR10?

Re: getting more out of an AR10? You have a good start, now you just need a better barrel. Call up Brux and buy one of their AR10 barrels, better yet, send them a BAT barrel extension and your bolt and have them headspace it to your bolt and re-assemble. You'll have a good shooter then.

Re: 223 for WT deer Other bullets that work well and are more resonably priced are the Win 64gr power point and the Hornady 60gr SP or HP.

    Gunsmithing PTG throat reamer

Re: PTG throat reamer Try the PTG Uni-Throater. Can be done in a lathe OR by hand. It has two pilots, one that centers the reamer ahead of the reamer and one aft that centers it in the chamber area. It also has an adjustable stop. PTG's website recommends either use by hand with the...

GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!! 6mm Creedmoor

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!! I built one similar a couple month or two ago with a Brux barrel cut to 26" and a 2" over gas tube chambered in 6X47 Lapua. So far I've only fired for function tuning the gas port diameter but it's cycling very sweet right now. Tried the 88gr Berger VLD...

    Gunsmithing Online gunsmithing courses

Re: Online gunsmithing courses Happy to help, and 'pity' didn't enter my mind while replying to the question. I've been tinkering with firearms since I was 16 years old when I did a trigger job on my 7600 Remington 30-06...Probably more luck than anything after a lot of work with a hand...

    Fabricating An AR Flash hider

Re: Fabricating An AR Flash hider A flash hider could be made out of the 1018 with no problem, if you want more durability you could always case harden it. Now if you would going to make a brake of any kind it would have to be hardened 4140/416R..etc. The one's I've made were out of barrel...

300 RUM why aren't they used in 1000 yd cop

Re: 300 RUM why aren't they used in 1000 yd cop I've used the 300 RUM for the last few years as a long range hunting rifle. It's set up with a 30" Rock bbl (1-11.27 tw), Nesika single shot action in a McMillan HTG stock with adjustable comb. I've pretty much stuck with 200gr Nosler...

Re: Online gunsmithing courses As a disabled vet do you still have access to some military educational benefits? If you're able, I'd look for a local Tech school offering machine shop courses. Learn to use the lathe, mill, surface grinder, etc... While you're doing that, pick up a few...

Gunsmithing .700" muzzle barrel to "skinny" for Short Mag?

Re: .700" muzzle barrel to "skinny" for Short Mag? I don't know the general opinion of it, but if your worried about barrel heat and grouping have the barrel cryo'd before the machine work. I've had a couple stinkers in the past that started to 'walk' after the 3rd round. A trip to Badger...

    Gunsmithing help fn action build

Re: help fn action build 48 degrees from center is about spot on from what I remember. I've done a dozen or so in the last year. For the extractor cut you can get the special tool from PTG, or just use a small endmill and relieve it to the proper depth then file the corners square. With at...

    22" Grendel(.264lbc) range report

Re: 22" Grendel(.264lbc) range report The Grendel is one of my favorites on the AR frame for guys that want to deer hunt with their AR. I've built a lot of them with worn out high-power and F-Class barrels. Cut 6-8" off the chamber end of a 30" worn out Krieger and after your done it looks...
