Gas rings worn out? (Issue Resolved)

Re: Gas rings worn out? When you clean the rifle do you clean out the buffer tube? Make sure it is clean, lightly oiled, and there's nothing pluging the hole through the buttstock screw.

Re: 6.5 Grendel- Wolf Gold, just for brass?? Doesn't Alexander Arms still have the best price on Lapua brass. A month or two ago I think I bought some directly from them for $62 or something like that.

Gunsmithing Send this AR upper receiver back?

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back? Touch it up with a file, but don't sweat it in the least. If it were mine, after I had it assembled it would never cross my mind again.

    AR-10 Barrell

Re: AR-10 Barrell I forgot to add call up Brux barrels. They'll provide you with one of their excellent cut rifled blanks fully contoured, threaded and chambered with the extension installed and gas port drilled at a very reasonable price.

Which AR10 to get? ($3500 rifle budget)

Re: Which AR10 to get? ($3500 rifle budget) I'd also build your own, but be sure to get a good barrel. Brux sells pre-contoured barrels with extension installed, headspaced bolt, and gas port drilled for a very good price. If I didn't contour and chamber my own barrels I'd buy a Brux.

Gunsmithing KABOOM Today...with damage, please help.

Re: KABOOM Today...with damage, please help. If they end up replacing it, before you go shooting the new one take a look at the feed ramps and polish them out so the upper receiver and the barrel extension ramps line up properly and are smoothed out. That may be part of your feeding problem...

Gunsmithing Bolt handle weld "Fail", kinda

Re: Bolt handle weld "Fail", kinda You could have just drilled a hole in the handle itself where it wraps around the bolt and filled the hole with the tig to get it to 'stick'.

    Melonite sizing die

Re: Melonite sizing die I know a few benchresters that have their dies melonited after making them specifically for their rifle. From what I've heard they hold up extremely well. Melonite works.

    Redding Ackley die problems

Re: Redding Ackley die problems Well if Greg did it, it's probably a good snug chamber on the min side of headspace (which is a good thing). Also, it's probably done very well too as he's pretty anal about things...in a good way.

What powder scale is everyone using?

Re: What powder scale is everyone using? Ive been using the stuff that came with the RCBS Master Reloading Kit for over 20 years with no problems, but last year I did pick up the Lyman auto dispenser and it works pretty well. It's good to .1 grain for the most part with the reducer installed...

    Bullet suggestion?

Re: Bullet suggestion? If it's for less than 300, look at the ballistics of the 40gr BT's at 3800+ fps. Otherwise the 50-53gr BT and match bullets are work very well.

    Let's talk 7mm choices ....

Re: Let's talk 7mm choices .... If you use the FN SPR action and swap out the mag box with the WSM mag box and follower you'll get 3.050" overall length with it and it feeds the 284 Win case perfectly...that's what I did.

    New 338 LM build

Re: New 338 LM build I've got about the identical components sitting in my safe waiting for me to get started. Right handed Stiller Tac338, 31" Rock bbl 1-9.4 twist, jewell trigger, etc... Don't have a stock, but I do have a big blank of laminate I was considering carving into an A5 type...

Please help me make a decision!

Re: Please help me make a decision! Sounds like it will be pretty heavy too! Go with a 26" barrel and a 3" straight shank at the chamber, with the caliber choice you'll get more out of it, and if it's too long it can always be cut back OR when you shoot the throat out, you could cut the...

7mm STW vs 300 WBY Mag for long range elk/moose

Re: 7mm STW vs 300 WBY Mag for long range elk/moose It's really a horse apiece. One thing the 300 Win mag has going for it is it will cycle a bit more smoothly on average. I have a 300 and 7mm WSM I use occasionally and although they work well, both needed a bit of tweaking in the feed...

Please help me make a decision!

Re: Please help me make a decision! FIRST I'd ask how much are you going to be shooting this rifle???? 2-400 rounds a year, 1000? And how far do you want to shoot an elk with this rifle. If it's closer to 1000 than 500 go with the 300 Win mag, but then plan on building a 260 (I'd look at...

7mm STW vs 300 WBY Mag for long range elk/moose

Re: 7mm STW vs 300 WBY Mag for long range elk/moose What are you considering a 'long' shot? If you're wanting a lighter weight 'hunting' rifle, are we talking about the 8lb range? If so, you're looking at a 24-26" sporter barrel, in a modest magnum...I'd still vote the 300 Win mag. The...

    AR-10 Barrell

Re: AR-10 Barrell I've also built a few AR10's (Armalite) with Rock Creek blanks and have had very good results. I use BAT extensions with them and thread/chamber/contour them myself and they've all shot extremely well. I've done them in 308, 260, and 6X47 Laupua although I don't have any...

break free clp in the bore

Re: break free clp in the bore I've used CLP for a long time, and will continue to do so, but I don't use it for a cleaning agent. After cleaning is complete I'll run a damp patch with CLP through the bore and follow up with a dry patch. Just leaves a light film that protects the steel...
