I've just started using a progressive press for 44 mag, finding a Dillon is not easy but I came across a dirt cheap Lee Loadmaster set up for 44. Needed a few spares but I got those easily enough. I know they are either loved or hated but I quite enjoy reloading on mine. Just the primer feed...
I'm also just about to try N340 in .44 Mag - lead loads. Have been using Unique but it's very dirty, have heard great reports on the cleanliness of 340 so will give it a try.
No crimping is needed for precision rounds for a bolt action, correct neck tension will do everything you need there. The only exception I'll make to that would be if I was loading hunting rounds, I'd put a light crimp on.
Viht powder is excellent and over here in the uk more economical the Hodgdon, Alliant etc. I use the following combinations:
N130 - .223 50gr loads
N140 - .223 69gr loads
N160 - .243 90gr loads
N160 - .260 140gr loads
N140 - .308 168gr loads
N150 - .308 175gr loads
N140 - .303 174gr loads
N165 -...
Check the body diameter or the brass above the belt - can you see any scrape marks around the circumference? One trick is to use a permanent marker and cover various suspect areas and then chamber a round, makes identifying tight spots easy. I mention the area above the belt as its a difficult...
I use 4 half round fence posts bolted together to make two A frames, drive them into the ground a couple of inches for stability and then place a bar across the V's to hang your plate. A cheap an effective solution however the posts eventually get shot away with the bullet splash.
I went with Forster for my 338 (to use with the coax) and found them to be superb. Great consistency and would happily recommend them as a very good alternative to Redding.
Mine likes two loads in particular:
175 SMK's
Lapua brass
Cci 200's
44.5 gr N150
And
168 SMK's
43gr n140 -this load is slow but very accurate out to 300 yards, accuracy drops off after 500 and I use the 175's
I tried the 155's but couldn't get them to shoot.
Sightron sIII 6-24. You get excellent glass plus 100 Moa adjustment when you want to go long range. It's plenty man enough for 338 LM recoil and with $1200 to spend you'll have enough to buy some Seekins rings and have change to spare.
Re: .260 Rem Bullet for Magazine Length?
I shoot the 140 SMK's out to 1300, my barrel prefers them to the other more slippery bullets. They are pretty short and jump tolerant.
Re: Primer depth problem
Primers should sit slightly deeper in the head of the case, if you are getting light primer strikes then you may have a problem with your pin (dirt lodged) or some other issue.
Re: Who likes 17 cal centerfires?
I just picked up my first 17 rem, an older r700 stainless. Managed to get 200 factory rounds cheaper than buying new brass so currently burning through that at the moment. Best groups are around 1MOA, am hoping that reloads with 20 gr vmax's will improve...
Re: Can't find H4350. In stock alternative?
I get better results with N160 out of my .260 rem so have been sticking with that. Very similar loads and ballistics to H4350 for me.

Re: Anyone use the LEE universal decapping die?
They work just fine, I run mine in an older press and leave the coax for resizing and seating only like you intend to. The only issue I've ever had is with dented case mouths on 223 brass, occasionally the mouth will bang against the decapping...
Re: Opinions on CCI primers?
I use them in all my loads, plinking, long range you name it. Never had one misfire and I've also found they stand pressure better than some other brands (don't interchange primer brands on hot loads...!)
Re: .260 reload data
I find N160 runs very close to H4350 and have loads for both and I tend to stick with the 140 SMK's as that's what my barrel likes best. Ive also had excellent results with both Remington and Lapua brass.
Re: Wet tumbling - how to do bigger batches of brass
STM do a 40# machine. Good guys to deal with.
