Trimming/deburring/chamfering before or after neck resizing?

Pretty straightforward question. This is for neck resizing using only a collet die.

    The "hard hold"?

Graham, simple sandbags (usually bags for shot that are refilled with sand) that are commonly available at ranges to use on the typical wooden bench.

    The "hard hold"?

What's everyone's opinion on using a hard hold for positions with bags as the artificial support? It seems counterintuitive to the total relaxation frame of mind, but I feel something is necessary to keep the rifle tight in my shoulder without a sling or bipod to load as artificial/bone...

Help me with a tool list to get my necks and mouths perfect with no runout.

Thanks Fuzzball! Very good stuff. I've read that post several times over. Awesome information. Seems like many aspects of hand loading for accuracy have a "dark art" quality to them, simply from the amount of misinformation floating around.

Help me with a tool list to get my necks and mouths perfect with no runout.

Steve, thank your post. I need to digest it and do some of the measurements. I do need to measure how much neck expansion I'm getting. After resizing I'm getting 0.3065" ID at the mouth. The main thing I think I want to get rid of is the vertical "wobble" of the case mouth circumference.

Help me with a tool list to get my necks and mouths perfect with no runout.

I do use a dead length seating die, but hadn't been spinning as I seated. Great tip. Thanks! I also like the redneck runout test. Good stuff!! :D

Quite intentionally. It's not so much the rifle, I'm interested and obsessed now with learning the hows and whys of handcrafting accurate ammunition!

Help me with a tool list to get my necks and mouths perfect with no runout.

The cartridge in question is a .30-06 Doing some measuring with simple caliper gauges, these case necks are not perfect thickness around. Some of them also have collet marks at the very top from trying to neck resize when they had been too cold worked, they should have been annealed first or...

It's also worth a mention that I've been doing free recoil vs hard hold on all these targets. May change it up next time.

Side play in sight picture using 1907 sling on R700

Yeah so I still suck a fat one at this. I followed my snapping in to a "T" live today. My crosshairs still dance around a 1 MOA diamond target like an alcoholic with the DT shakes. I can't seem to get a relaxed stable position and watch a clear breath cycle. Hrmmm.

After bore cleaning, do your groups start bad and tighten up?

This is the first time I shot the rifle after cleaning, its first cleaning in my hands (patches/Hoppe's). First group after cold bore and sighter, was a bit over 1 MOA with no flyers, just looked like .308" diameter shotgun holes. After 14 rounds down the tube, I had sub-MOA groups again...

Well, here you go y'all: I wasted half the ammo dinking around with the sling/prone, but I did shoot two 5-shot groups of 49.4 gr in the same configuration as the rest of this thread (bench/bags). This rifle has no tolerance for shooter error. See, and I have a lot of shooter error to work...
