Job Market in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area

I lived quite a while in the Triangle area and absolutely loved it. I'd relocate from DC to that area in a heartbeat. The last time I looked jobs were fairly plentiful if you were a business professional, which it seems you are. The tricky part will be finding a good gig close to where your...

    Truck gun optic

Options are good, and more options are better. In that spirit, I'd say give a good look to the USO 1-8 or 1.8-10. I have the 1-8 on my AR battle rifle, and the 1.8-10 on my Gradous truck gun, and I really like them both. Of the entire USO line, those two models are my favorites. I'm not...

Long range labor of love comes to fruition: LRI 7mm-300WM

Frank, y'all turn out some great barrels. Bartleins are my first choice whenever I do a new build. Bob, I appreciate the kind words. I'm keeping close track of how many rounds I get out of this barrel and how the round performs for life of the project. I'm going to schedule some LR time with...

Actually I'd love to use your reamer, as well as that extra Sentinel stock I know you have sitting around....

Excellent. I think you thought I was kidding when I told you that, but I assure you I wasn't. Awesome rigs, man, as always. I've got a Surgeon 591R WSM that I'm waiting to take down to Robert's for a 6.5SAUM build.

Just so the Free World knows, I called dibs on that 300WM if and when it ever hits the market!

The Dark Knight RISES!! (Hey, its a BAT man!) **Range pics up 9/2**

This is the god's honest truth, right here. 5-shot groups more often turn into tests on the indian, not the bow. For my rifles, I only shoot 3 shot groups as well. When I'm doing training for myself and others, that's when the 5 and 10-shot groups happen.

The Dark Knight RISES!! (Hey, its a BAT man!) **Range pics up 9/2**

I personally think Bob has 1/4 of all the 6.5x47Ls on the eastern seaboard. Because they're all Gradous rifles, they happen to be the best shooting 6.5s on the eastern seaboard. Bob, it's time for an intervention because you're a full-blown addict, and we're all your enablers! Now for the...

Long range labor of love comes to fruition: LRI 7mm-300WM

I'll definitely agree that a 7mmRM is a great cartridge and often overlooked. I'm as curious as everyone else when it comes to barrel life, but the good news is that I've kept exact track of how many rounds this rifle's seen, so I'll be able to give a good accounting next year when I expect to...

Long range labor of love comes to fruition: LRI 7mm-300WM

That's a good question that I defer to people more experienced than myself. The neck on my 7mm-300WM is particularly tight, but you can certainly use a reamer that doesn't require neckturning. In fact, I wish that's the one that had been used on my rifle. Nonetheless, neckturning done right...

Maggie’s What are you drinking right now!?

I recently went from buying ground coffee to whole bean and grinding my own. I found a nice dark roast at Trader Joe's that I like. Now I grind my own beans right before I brew, and the taste is so much better since the naturals oils don't evaporate. I'm not using any complex brewing process...

    Worse grouping after new stock?

One tendency that I struggle with when it comes to perfecting a load or a rig setup is making great the enemy of good. Many builders and some of the very experienced shooters here on the Hide can take a great shooting rig that they like, change a variable like the stock setup, and come out with...

Sidearms & Scatterguns under rated hand guns

Great idea for a thread! My first pistol was a great buy and highly underrated: a Sig 2340. It's a polymer-framed Sig that looks a lot like a P229. Great pistol, accurate, reliable. One of the best values I've found in the pistol world.

Brief overall impressions of TacOps Lima 51

Mike builds an incredible rifle. You can't beat the Lima model line, I've got a Lima 66 and I love it.

Long range labor of love comes to fruition: LRI 7mm-300WM

Thanks for the kind words. The barrel on my rifle is a standard 26" Bartlein medium palma, and fluted. I've been really happy with Retumbo thus far so I don't see myself switching unless I can't find it anymore. As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Or maybe I just don't want the...

Rifle Scopes What is everyone's preference on reticles?

I prefer MSR reticles above all others, but some of the Horus ones are bad if you don't have to pay for a premium for it on a used scope.

    Chainsaw brand??

Ten years ago, I'd have said Stihl all day long. No more. As a few others have said, the quality's gone down and they're resting on their laurels. I had to choose between a Stihl, Husqy, and an Echo a little while back. I went with the Echo and am glad I did. It starts easier than my old...

Long range labor of love comes to fruition: LRI 7mm-300WM

I'm not sure what the barrel life will be on this gun, but the load I'm using isn't pushing the pressure limit. I think it will be comparable to a 300WM. In terms of whether it will ballistically outperform a 300WM, that's a solid "maybe." On paper I think a 300WM with a 230 hybrids at max...
