What do you consider the most essential gear for ELR?

I'm missing the most important thing of all... no one seems to mention it: motorized transport :)

Rifle Scopes US optics 5-25 question

I see hypes every few years. Leupy was da bomb with their mk4 Ultra's. Then it was the NXS. The it was USO, couldn't look on the Hide and NOT see someone with a USO scope. Then came Schmidt, then Premier. Technology progresses and eventually some manufacturers listen to what shooters want...

Rifle Scopes US optics 5-25 question

Are you sure you're not a NF salesman? All of it is heresay until the scope has proven itself the next couple of years. Great glass has never been the NF strong point. They never got the colors right, purple fringing on high contrast, low resolution on the 12-42 when on full zoom. I've seen...

Rifle Scopes US optics 5-25 question

How can an argument against USO be validated by "join date" and "10 years of reading", and in the same post argue that an unproven scope will best the S&B 5-25??? That is fanboy talk lime on the camera forums. I have yet to see NF optics that match the glass of S&B. The beast (pfff, which intern...

    The Great 7mm Debate!

Go for the 7mm-270WSM in that case. Winchester and Norma make them, you could even neck back the 300wsm, also made by norma and winchester. Chances of finding any of these four cases are higher than just the 7wsm that winchester makes. Good for 3100fps from 30".

    The Great 7mm Debate!

    Any 7mm over 2800 will be a barrel burner. Maybe 2000 rds at 2800fps, 1000 rds at 3100fps. Either way it will not last long ;) 2800fps: 6.5-284 brass 3000-3050fps: 7SAUM 3100fps: 7-270WSM

Stocks similar to XLR Tactical lite?

With "AR Platform" do you mean using AR grips and butt stocks?

    How close to mount scope?

He has an adjustable cheekpiece, so he can adjust without lowering the scope.

    Which case? 105 Hybrid at 3K out of a 22"ish barrel. 6x47L, 6XC, 6Creed, 6SLR...

Just for info... I have made my own QL library for odd cases. Use at own discression. http://dasher.nl/QL/jdk_cases.vol Copy it into the Quickload/data/calibers folder and select it in QL. Creed, 6XC etc are all in there. Most are existing cases from QL filtered to what I shoot or have...

    Your first long range rifle

Sako TRG22 .308 26" in 1999, my first rifle. Hakko MP 4-16x56 scope, harris bipod. Custom F-Class rig BAT 30" 6.5-284 from 2005. Several others since.

New to the forum, new to rifles, not new to being stupid

If bench and prone is your normal way of shooting then ho 28-30". 20" is giving up a lot of speed just to be tacticool. At 25fps per inch, that is 200fps or more. My own F and prone rifles are 30-34", only my 100m dedicated prone competition rifle is 20", and my practical 6x47 folder is 24"...

    AIAX Barrel Lengths

If portability is an issue, go with 20". Otherwise there is nothing between them (24/26). You loose/gain 20-25fps per inch.

    Unsolicitated range feedback

24 vs 26" is a non issue, you loose 15-25fps per inch. If you only do paper punching and less dragging it around, a longer barrel will help buck the wind some more. It's always a compromise. I like longer barrels myself as I only do prone static shooting, not running around a Sniper's Hide Cup...

    Unsolicitated range feedback

The 195 berger will pose a few problems, IF it is ever made. The long bullet will require a 8.5 twist at least. With that twist and long barrels (f-class) I know bullets will start to give out when you push them hard. Had a 8.25tw 34" barrel that fried Bergers, Sierras and anything I fed them...

    Unsolicitated range feedback

Berger will not put out the 195. Don't get your hopes up or hold off a project just for this bullet.

    recoil of 308

;) Kind of what I thought, but seeing as OP said it was for his kids, I can imagine his asking about it. There are sissy-pads out there to help tame the recoil, or perhaps a 2" soft recoil pad. I have an XLR chassis with a soft thick recoil pad on my .375 SnipeTac, and the felt recoil of that...

    recoil of 308

If 308 recoil is an issue, why use a 308? You may want to consider a 6mm alternative (6x47, 6XC, 243 etc); better ballistics, way less recoil, same bolt face, same mag feed.

Who has seen a Creedmoor like this before?

Now if it would only fold to the right :) Very awesome looking!!! Hats off.

F T/R Competition Need help deciding best 7mm bullet for F-class for new shooter

The best advice I could give is, seeing it is so close around the corner, to stick with what you know will shoot. Better to shoot that 162 Amax and give up a little to the wind, than to find out that quick load you found with a 180 wasn't all you thought it was and get's you all over the board...
