    Kurt, same still applies to 6.5 vs 7 even if you shoot a shorter barrel. Anything the 6.5 can do, the 7 can do better and last longer. Smaller bore + same powder volume = more wear. A 6.5WSM/SAUM will have a shorter life than a 7WSM/SAUM, yet have weaker ballistics due to the 7mm BC advantage...

    Which group would you take?

    3 shot groups mean nothing when you still have two out. A single group also does not mean anything, could be just you having a good moment of statistics running in your favor for a change. Try several sessions with the same load and then look at the average group sizes.

    7mm wsm saum 284 winchester HELP!

    That will be pushing the rim on the boattail through the neck/shoulder junction. On the Lapua cases that will give massive seating pressure. Would not recommend it. 2.965 is the max length on the Alpha WSM mags, that's pushing it on the 7-270WSM but just fine on the SAUM.
