Figured out why this gun was a good deal.

I would send it to Mark at Spartan Rifles for inspection and rework. Seems like the chamber isn't to spec or some other "modification" was made by the previous owner if factory ammo is giving you such difficulty.

    What Not to Do.

Get a scott parker tuned beam scale to use as a backup. Worth every penny (I think he's [email protected]). Redding imperial sizing wax is your friend. Expensive dies are (IMO) not worth the money unless you need them for a special feature (like the Redding all in one shoulder bump die with neck...

    All guns stolen, insurance question

I have USAA and I needed to put my rifle scopes under the firearms rider policy. I would imagine this is consistent across most insurance companies. That is a real bummer. Even if you get the $ to rebuilt your collection, I don't envy the hassle you'll have to go through.

    Help with OCW target analysis

Looks like Dan was right. 43.8gr is right about where I would tune things. Your POIs between 43.6 and 43.9 are about the same.

gunsmith needed to build a tactical rifle

If you are willing to pay more of a premium for 1st class service and excellent work: Mark Gordon of Short Action Customs Jared Joplin of APA My friend used Mark for a full build and I had three barreling jobs done by Jared. They will return your phone calls and take lots of time explaining all...

Rifle Scopes Assuming they are the same price, which scope?

Get the Vortex. I bought a S&B PMII a little over a year ago and wish I had held out for the new Gen II. If someone offered, I would seriously consider doing a trade. The Gen II has no tunneling at low power, has extremely crisp turrets and is built like a freaking tank!

Rifle Scopes Vortex PST or Bushnell HDMR.

I have experience using both scopes on precision rigs. I disagree that the PST is a POS, but if you have the $, go with the Bushnell (unless you need illumination). The Bushnell has better glass and will better suit your needs at long range. Another option to consider is the SWFA 5-20. I would...

    Help with OCW target analysis

with Lapua brass, Varget, and 178s you should see a node right around 44gr. Load a few a couple of increments down and a couple of increments up from 44gr about 0.010 off the lands and see what you get. Remember, you're not looking so much for a tight group as consistent POI between a string of...

What are your three favorite powders for the .308 Winchester with 168/175 grain bullets?

My three favorites are: - PP 2000 MR (meters best, highest velocity while maintaining accuracy, use it for 223 also) - IMR 4895 (most accurate) - Varget (very temp stable, excellent results (a hair less accurate than IMR 4895, not as fast as 2000 MR), use for 223 also)

Rifle Scopes Help picking optic for PredatOBR 5.56

If you're planning to shoot 5.56 or 7.62, I have a hard time seeing any disadvantage offered by the JM-1. 600 yards is approaching the effective range of a 5.56 semi auto. Sure, you could probably squeeze a little more, but a 5.56 semi-auto platform has a lot more fidelity inside 600 yards; if...

Rifle Scopes Need some SPR scope advice.

I would rather put $600 towards a 3-15 SWFA than a used Leupy. You'll get more scope. You won't get style points from the purists though.

can I fit a 75 or 80 grain amax onto an ar15 magazine

That was a miscommunication between brain and keyboard. Thanks for catching that!

can I fit a 75 or 80 grain amax onto an ar15 magazine

77gr Sierra, 69gr HPBT or something the size of the Hornady 75gr HPBT (don't use for hunting) will fit. The 75 and 80gr AMAXs are for bolt action guns.

Rifle Scopes Need some SPR scope advice.

Read JimBigFish's review of the USO 1.8-10. For the money, I think its performance is lackluster. Everyone has been surprised by the Vortex Gen II 1-6. I haven't compared it side by side with the USO 1.8-10, but the glass quality on the Gen II is on par with my S&B. 1-8x+ scopes get real...

Rifle Scopes Need some SPR scope advice.

If you are building a MK 12 SPR clone, then purists will tell you to get the NF 2.5-10x24 (if you can find it) or the Leupy 3.5-10x40 or Leupy 2.5-8x36. They will usually let it slide if you concede with getting the NF 2.5-10x32 since the x24 model is such a PITA to find. Personally, I will...

Rifle Scopes Full day with the Vortex 4.5-27x - Initial Impressions

I own a Gen I 5-20. It is a good scope. The Gen II is a different league. If you have the extra money, go with the Gen II, but if your budget forces you to go with the Gen I you won't be disappointed.

    My 5r customized by S.A.C.

Looks like a shooter to me. I think the 5R rifles, especially spruced up the way you have yours, are a very good value. It's what my wife uses, and she shoots so well with it that most other shooters at the range ask her "who built it", thinking it's a ground up custom rifle. Did you ever...

223 to 260 what needs to be done?

That might be awhile. 223 has long barrel life. Might be better off just building a 6.5 CM from the ground up with the setup you currently have.

Pics Please - New GAP-10 Handguard

Do the horizontal slots on the hand guard have any functional purpose? It's hard to tell from the pics if they are vent ports, recesses in the metal, or something else. It doesn't look like these slots accept a key mod rail. On the bottom side, is it possible to mount anything besides the bipod...
