    Alpha mags......how long?

You get them from Accurate Mag: Magazines - Accurate-Mag These are what you get if you buy a mini-chassis from Manners Stocks. I think GAP uses them too. They are good quality. The longest I have been able to load in them and get reliable feeding is 2.965." You essentially get another 0.1"...

    Alpha mags......how long?

Recommend you dispute the charge with PP for services not rendered. A good friend of mine had to do it with his credit card company. I stay far away from alpha mags...there's a reason Triad won't carry them anymore. If you want something like the type II alphas, get yourself the 300 WSM mags...

    6 vs 6.5mm - looking for guidance

243 Win. Simple and easy. Brass is easy to find. No fire forming. Don't need to rely on expensive brass. Been around for ages and there is a ton of reloading data, easy to get dies and other other reloading components. Recoil is very mild, no muzzle brake needed. Be sure to get it with the right...

    My new PCR .260 build

Your shooting isn't all that bad. I've seen much, much worse from newer shooters with high end rifles. The majority of shooting is mental. Focus on breathing and trigger control. Dry firing between shots or before you get going helps quite a bit. You're almost there. Very nice rifle! Enjoy!

Another newb needing advice for 1st rifle

There are lots of options if you want to use your existing receiver in the build. The guys at Accurate Ordnance do good work, take a look here: Item Detail - Accurate Ordnance Other good options are GA Precision, RW Snyder Gunsmithing, Scout Supply Company, and Short Action Customs. Precision...

Can You Guys Critique My Build Before I click Order?

Paul, I suggest you get a manners T3 instead of the T (unless you already have the stock). Like you, I enjoy the traditional feeling stock. The T3 has a beefed up section in the recoil lug area, which you will want for a 338 LM, and it has a wider forearm, which is better suited for heavy...

AI ax 338 vs surgeon ax 338?

Neither of the rifles will be light. AIs are built in a sturdy chassis. These are not meant to be hunting rifles. They are big, heavy magnums designed for relatively extended firing sessions. A heavy barrel is what you want.

Seeking experianced thoughts/opinions on bottom metal for new build.

Surgeon Bottom Metal is great! There are many others that work just fine too, e.g., Badger, Seekins, PT&G, CDI Precision, APA. What they all have in common is that they use AI mags. Accurate mags, which are similar, work fine as well. I avoid Alpha mags (feeding/reliability issues, poor CS), but...

    6.5 creedmore barrel suggestions

Bartlein barrels are great. The smallest contour I'd go with is a Remington Varmint or Medium Palma (they are similar); MTU is good for sustained firing sessions at the expense of added weight. A tuned remington costs quite a bit less than a Jewell and works well. I have a Jewell and it's...

AI ax 338 vs surgeon ax 338?

The AI is a factory rifle built by a relatively larger company. The Surgeon is more of a semi-custom build by a boutique shop. The AI has has tri-lug, 60 degree bolt throw, while the Surgeon XL is a beefed up 90 degree 2 lug design. The AI may be more likely to provide long term support, but who...

    Nightforce v US Optics

You should ask this question in the optics forum. And, IMO, I would go with neither ... get a Vortex Razor.

Should I change my current 6.5cm to 308?

I have no idea why you would even need the 308. Stay with your 6.5CM build and get a 223 for practice inside 400 yds. No need for a 7 SAUM unless you need to hit something really hard at a distance.

    $2000 and no REAL idea

The LRP 308 is a much better deal than the Sig SSG 3000; match grade barrel, optimized for match grade 308 rounds, completely worked over receiver with all of the bells and whistles, and detachable mag assembly to boot! The Sig has mostly proprietary parts and will not likely be as accurate as...

What do you guys think of this remington 700?

It has a J lock bolt. First order of business would be to send the bolt to a gunsmith to rid yourself of that "feature." The trigger is a old school style remington, which is good. Have it tuned up. Bipod is on the long side and it looks like a Harris imitation; sling is cheap. Scope and rings...

    260 remington vs 6.5 creedmoor

The 308 case has been around for decades, a testament that it works well. The 260 (and 7mm-08) are derivates of this case with a slimmed down and turned neck. Sure, 260 and 308 both fit in a short action, however, shooters can encounter mag length problems using these cases as they chase the...

    260 remington vs 6.5 creedmoor

There is really no discernible difference between the two for most shooters. My friend shoots a 260; I shoot 6.5CM and we can't really tell the difference between the two. I think you can flip a coin. I picked 6.5CM because it was built from the ground up as an efficient short action cartridge...

Do I need to have my action trued? Or waste if money?

Unless you want to change the barrel, it's usually not worth the money to true the receiver. Mark Gordon from Short Action Customs offers an SPS package that might interest you if you want to improve accuracy.
