    Long range hunting calibers

Re: Long range hunting calibers 300WM. Wherever you chose to hunt, you'll always find ammo available. All the calibers mention though are a great choice. My .300WM was my first LR/P rifle build and is still 'old faithful'. After I shot the barrel out I had Jered Joplin at APA rebuild the...

    Remington 600

Re: Remington 600 Good find, they're getting rare. The guys that have them don't want to get rid of them, and the guys that got rid of them are trying to get them back. Best bolt action brush gun I've ever found. Congrats!

    the desert multi-cam twins

Re: the desert multi-cam twins You and I have the same taste, AICS and the same tool box! Nice rigs BigJoe, think I'll have to pm shortbus on getting my skins painted as well. Yours look better than mine and that just won't do ;-)

    New to long range

Re: New to long range How far out are you looking to shoot? And are you going to hunt with it? I went with a .300winmag for my first build and will never get rid of it. That said, the above mentioned rifle is the standard for the starter LR/P rifle and when you want to upgrade, you'll have...

    Want to upgrade stock

Re: Want to upgrade stock HS makes good DBM but you have to use their proprietary mags. All the other DBM mentioned are compatible with AICS or Alpha Ind. mags. Quality is great, but quality and versitily are better. If you do go with DBM, go with AI mag compatible DBM. Just my .02

    Want to upgrade stock

Re: Want to upgrade stock The Manners Mini Chassis is a great choice but if you're on the fence about DBM, you can always get either one of those stocks and upgrade to DBM later.

Re: Rem 700 xcr tactical long range 300 win mag I load 69.3gr of IMR4350 w/ 200gr SMK's. I know, people will dog me for using it as a hunting round but it gets the job done. I pushing right around 2920fps

    JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :) These stocks are some of the best looking stocks out right now. somewhat modular but still a little more traditional than an AICS or full aluminum chassis. Congrats, looks great!

how would you tweak this build?

Re: how would you tweak this build? Parallax is a huge issue. Most of the guys in sniper school that failed out due to the shooting range were the same guys that always forgot to adjust for parallax. Unlike focusing a reticle, where you only have to do it once (theoretically) the parallax...

    5r milspec

Re: 5r milspec if you're going to keep the barreled action as is for a good while, I'd say it's a great choice. If you're going to rip it apart in a year and have a full build performed on that action, I'd say get a cheaper model and shoot it until you rebuild it.

    new stock

Re: new stock I have an AICS on my APA build and I love it! I also loved the Macmillan I was issued in the military. Get your hand around all that are on your list and find out which one fits you. they are all comparable in quality so it's all personal preference. Good luck!

    What can be done?

I need to make a decision on a stock....

Re: I need to make a decision on a stock.... +1 for Macmillan, or go for a Manners. Unfortunately "bench shooting" and "light weight" don't hand in hand. It's tough to find a happy medium.
