Gunsmithing M16 extractor conversion to BAT Machine bolts.

Judging by this photo, my guess is the pin hole was drilled in the wrong location. It looks to me as though the projection of the extractor paw above the bolt nose is dern near equal to the gap between the back of it and the bolt inlet.

Gunsmithing M16 extractor conversion to BAT Machine bolts.

Yes. I started making my own over a decade ago in an effort to streamline the installation process. Our tempo (75-100 a month) made this pretty clear. We make our own ejector pins too. Most of the M700 bolts we do are converted to use dual ejector pins, so our burn rate on those is 2x...

Gunsmithing M16 extractor conversion to BAT Machine bolts.

This week we converted some Bat Machine-made bolts to M16 style. I am so grateful to have the machining resources I do here. This would have been nearly impossible to do otherwise. These began life as a T slot type extractor with a .545" diameter magnum bolt face. We converted them to .480"...

Gunsmithing Help- broken case stuck in chamber

Once upon a 3rd world country ago... In Iraq I always had my share of M4s and (mostly) Peshmerga (Kurdish) issue bang sticks to fix. Often, the ammo was dug out of a hole in the ground and it resulted in more than one case "sneezing" and becoming stuck in the chamber. The fix that I found to...

Gunsmithing Chambering on a 5-axis VMC

FWIW: I've not read all the comments, so if I step on a toe I apologize. It's been my experience that coolant delivery is the #1 challenge to solve when automating the process of chambering a rifle barrel with a form tool. It's a nut I cracked over 20 years ago while working for Nesika and...

This is a pair of billet hot/cold side tanks I made this weekend for a gent with a baller Mustang that runs in the Heavy Street classes. 96lbs of material to start that finished just under 8lbs.

It's been a busy few weekends. 1. Billet valve covers to fit my unicorn heads are done. Crank/cam sensor combo mount finished: Longblock is done, all that's left is getting the dry sump plumbing sorted and the blower buttoned up for good.

M40 scope base project by LRI

Corrected model. Here's where the goof was. The 2 radius features and tangency was off a bit, causing the screw heads to look radically different than the artifact pieces Ryan provided me. Next, this feature which directly influences how much exposure the screw head has when viewed from...

M40 scope base project by LRI

A quick heads up gents. I made a batch of rings (see earlier pics from a few months ago), but I've been on the fence about them. Showing them to some local folk, the opinion was "close enough." Still, I was gritting my teeth a bit which is a sign. Meeting Ryan again in Sioux Falls a few...

    HoOdRaT 3.0..... Blown 421 LSX.

Crank is a billet piece from Callies. The profiling of the counterweights is from them. The rods are aluminum and from GRP. The stroke of the crank and the size of the AL rods required a bit of blockwork to clear the caps. We went with the largest base circle that we could on the camshaft...

Early, mid 1990s. I'm in the Marines and I whore myself to any race engine shop within a half hour of Camp Pendleton. Richard Conley Race Engines was located in Escondido back then and contracted with the Chapparone brothers (Chapparone Auto Body in San Diego) He was in charge of their...

Hey gents, Regarding mail. We've been in business formally since early 2009. In that time I have had around 6 or 7 guns/parts go MIA for a while via the USPS. They've all been recovered, but it took a while. By and large, USPS Priority Mail does a very good job. What can get you into...
