    280 AI Brass?

I've used both Winchester (plated) and Remington (bare) 280 brass to form for my AI with good effect. 6 loadings on the Remington so far with no issues; the Winchester has only been formed and loaded once. I've been very pleased with the performance of the cartridge at extended ranges (940...

    Suppressors Is This Fitment Normal?

The suppressor should tighten on the shoulder; there should not be a gap there like you are seeing.

Gunsmithing Bedding the recoil lug, stuck

Just out of curiosity, what are you using to try and pull the action from the stock? Are you just pulling up on the barrel, are you tapping at it through the magazine recess, what? I've found the best way to remove a barreled action from a freshly bedded stock is force applied directly upward...

    Gunsmithing Sako trg/ turfs question

You will need to confirm the headspace on the TRG barrel, and adjust as necessary. It probably won't be a drop in fit, especially if you want to time the markings.

Gunsmithing Action blue print question for the Professionals

It if was blasted and cerakoted, there's no easy visual way to determine whether it's been trued or not. Are there tooling marks in the bolt face, or is that just brass wear?

Gunsmithing Tikka Bolt Face Opening Question

You are going to have an issue with extractor placement. The .223 bolt face has the extractor cut closer to center line than a .473 bolt face cartridge. You would be better off purchasing a new bolt bolt and selling the .223 bolt face body. Brownell's sells T3 factory bolt bodies.

Gunsmithing Win 70 push feed extractor!

I had that same problem with a Winchester a few months ago for a customer. We weren't able to locate a replacement extractor in time for his hunt, so I silver soldered in a plug for the extractor and cut the bolt for a Sako style T2k extractor.

    Gunsmithing Custom engraving

That's just a different font set on a Pantograph. If your gunsmith uses a pantograph to engrave the caliber markings or makers mark, then he may very well have another type set to use.

    Gunsmithing Custom engraving

Bubb, How "fancy" are you thinking of? Did you have in mind a basic scroll style pattern, or something more ornate? FEGA has some very neat examples of different hand engraved pieces available to look at, here: FEGA Master Engraver Photo Gallery You could also take a look through the...

Gunsmithing cheap fun build? on mosin or mauser?

Rock Solid Industries makes a pretty decent Mosin-Nagant scope mounting system; they even have a package available with a re-welded bolt body with an extended handle. I've used their mounts previously for customers and except for a lack-luster anodizing job (nothing wrong with it, but I was...

Gunsmithing question on mounting barrel in LR 308 upper

Anti-seize on the threads is a good idea for sure; it will make it much easier to remove later if you need to. Other than that, pre-seating the barrel nut as you described is not a bad idea on a new upper/barrel nut combo, just to ensure that you're getting a good tightening on the barrel...

    Gunsmithing M1A stock refinishing question

If you really have to remove a quarter inch from both sides of the buttstock, a heavy grit paper is going to take a very long time. I would start with a cabinet maker's rasp or even a farrier's hoof rasp for that level of wood removal. Then move to a finer rasp and then the abrasives. Tung oil...

    Gunsmithing Cutting the barrel

Depending on the gas port size, it may need to be adjusted to get enough gas while there's still a bullet in the bore. Generally, AKs are drastically over-gassed so chopping the barrel doesn't really hurt much. There are "dissipator" style builds that use a 14.5" barrel with the rifle length gas...

New "Shorty" Rifle Ready For The Deer/Hog Fields

They designed the stock so that you could use a taller mag box in the rifle with a blind magazine setup. I don't know that anyone makes one commercially, but I've extended ADL boxes before for that purpose.
