    I wouldn't be surprised if that's by design. Maybe they don't want an aftermarket for their scopes. Perhaps the bean counters at Brownell's figure it's better to sell new scopes for $999 and let shooters trade them in for gift certificates that they'll spend at Brownell's on something else.
