Killing Prairie Dogs at 3,125 Yards

The late Skip Talbot and a few others had a place out in the Nevada desert where they would set up to hit "The Rock" at 2 miles with 50 BMG rifles set up very similar to these. Range was verified using a Soviet Laser Range Finder that could range out to 12K (not eye safe either). This was 15+...

    50cal bullet design...

The problem with shooting heavy bullets like these, is the lack of powder available slow enough to optimize velocity. I have shot projectiles very similar to these (930 grains) out of a light class competition rifle (30#) and they certainly make the rifle twist and jump on ignition. I was only...

Question: Atlas Bipod any good for .50 BMG?

I have used an Atlas V7 on one of my .50's in the past, but it is not exactly ideal, as it was not specifically designed for large heavy rifles. It never failed, but it is just not ideal. I have talked to Kasey at length about the V10 project, and what features I would like to see, but we will...

    Headsets

Peltor makes a set of electronic headsets with built in GMRS channels, antenna and mic. Just get 2 of them, and you are good to go. No need to mess with radios and cords. (Though I also use Comtacs with a variety of different radios)...

Trigger options for custom 50 BMG

The installation is as straight forward and installing any other Remington style trigger. I have used stock Remington triggers, Timney triggers, and on custom benchrest only, Jewell. The most challenging thing is whether or not you want to use a safety. the Navy Mk15 has never used a safety...

Rifle Scopes .50 BMG Zero Distance

I am skeptical that the bullet would take 300 yards to settle down. Every bullet is wobbly (for the lack of a more scientific explanation) for a certain distance after leaving the muzzle, but has dampened the oscillation by 10 yards past the muzzle. That said, I have witnessed many .50 cal...

Rifle Scopes Return to Zero Stops?

I have also used Rob's technique, and a variation of it also. Once zeroed, i use a red or yellow high highlighter pen to color in the stadia line that corresponds to my "zero." Covering the "below zero" stadia lines is probably better if you intend to shoot in low light conditions.

    Designated pouch for Terrapin Rangefinder

Re: Designated pouch for Terrapin Rangefinder Tyr Tactical makes one that will hold the PLRF-05 and a Kestrel. Tyr Tactical I think you can order directly from them or I think they have a couple of dealers also.

    Rifle Scopes Nightforce Mil-R Reticle

Re: Nightforce Mil-R Reticle I still prefer the H2CMR. I fail to understand why none of the other Mil reticles have .2 hashes near the center... when often you are trying to hold somewhere between .1 and .9 mil...... except for the H2CMR it is always a SWAG!

Night Vision Opinions wanted! NV mount

Re: Opinions wanted! NV mount Hakan, From what it appears in the photos, it looks like it would definitely fill a niche for those who do not have dedicated rails. I appears that the rail is also sloped the same as the mount which I am sure you are aware is important to keep the NVD aligned...

DTA 3000M + Long Range Shoot This Thursday!

Re: DTA 3000M + Long Range Shoot This Thursday! Nick, Russ, Great shooting, and the ammo is impressive! Kudo's for doing the T & E under such cold conditions. FWIW, the S&B H2CMR reticle has 15 mils holdover, without any thick stadia at the ends. I've also got a pair of vintage (1985?)...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Sig Sauer P229 or H&K P30

Re: Sig Sauer P229 or H&K P30 My experience has been just the opposite. Now I am a long range rifle guy, and never use my handguns as much as I shoot the rifles. So keep that in consideration here... I have owned Sigs exclusively for the past 20 years. They are all very well made, smooth...

Realistic range of the 338 Lapua

Re: Realistic range of the 338 Lapua I am able to get the 300 Berger VLD Hybrids up to 2900 fps, but OAL is 3.860 (I use the Seekins Mag and have a long throat). My experience at 2000 meters mirrored Timlinex. It does not take much to push the bullet just off the edge of the target right or...

    .50 groups in " bad lands "

Re: .50 groups in " bad lands " Excellent Davide! Looks like that ammo is pretty good stuff! I found the same consistency with the FFS when I matched my .338 Lapua and 300 Berger Hybrids, out to 2000 meters. Nice Shooting!

Rifle Scopes Schmidt Bender 5-25x56 or 12.5-50x56 for AIAW .338

Re: Schmidt Bender 5-25x56 or 12.5-50x56 for AIAW .338 I personally would only consider the S&B 12-50X as it is now for benchrest competition use. In that case, I would also like the .025 clicks, which no longer seems to be available. If you are trying to shoot 5 shot groups smaller than 5...
