BlackDiamond Rifles, looking for info

Re: BlackDiamond Rifles, looking for info Dave Viers built my .375 CheyTac on a Lawton 8000 Action, 11.5:1 Twist Lawton barrel, and Manners T-4A stock (I also have a McRee stock for it). I was pleased with his work, and have recommended him to others in the past. He has made his own...

    50 Chassis, another option....

Re: 50 Chassis, another option.... I have been using the first prototype of this on my single shot version for the past year or so, and it has worked extremely well. When I dropped the barreled action in and took the first shot at 100 yards, the impact was dead on. I've had it in and out of...

    50 bmg muzzle velocity???

Re: 50 bmg muzzle velocity??? The Lake City number is based off a muzzle velocity on a 45" M2 MG barrel. The 29" barrel on the AR-50 or any other bolt gun will be significantly lower as JimmyM40a2 stated, and will probably be a little slower than the Barrett ammo which is pretty hot.

NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front ..

Re: NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front .. Mechanic, I just picked up ~ 350 M2 AP's down here in Raton. I'm here for the FCSA Nationals, and one of the vendors had a partial can. It took a little talking to convince him to sell them all to me, but I prevailed I agree...

NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front ..

Re: NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front .. The diagram you have from BH is for the M2 AP (Black Tip), not the M8 API Silver tip. I was only referring to the M8. Note also the core is listed as a tungsten/steel alloy. Definitely heavier than other steels, but still not as heavy...

Re: NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front .. Here is a schematic of both rounds: The real winner would be the Canadian C88 APIT round: A true tungsten core, albiet at 900 grains! Scott

NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front ..

Re: NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front .. I could be mistaken, but I always understood the M8 API to have a hardened steel core (Magnanese-Molybdenum Alloy), not tungsten. The M8 API does have a greater sectional density as the greatest proportion of the core is the penetrator...

    .338 Bullet Test, *Pic Heavy*

Re: .338 Bullet Test, *Pic Heavy* Sandytye, I had not posted the drop data at the longer ranges with the improved version of the ZA338/6.0 bullet at my test at Atterbury. You will note that I was unable to shoot every yard line, but i think enough to give at least an approximation. My...

Re: .338 Bullet Test, *Pic Heavy* My apologies for the delay in updating this: Noel has developed a hunting version of the ZA.338/6.0 bullet, with a polymer tip. Hide member Rockz provided the test by firing the bullet into wet newspaper @ 500 yards...

    .338 Lapua over .300 WM?

Re: .338 Lapua over .300 WM? The Crane decision had more to do with maximizing the existing platform, before the decision on the new SO Sniper Rifle system was finalized. I have a copy of the specs on the new ammo, and it is loaded to 68,000 psi!!! (with a max of 72,000!!). They already had...

NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Front ..

Re: NEW TOPIC: Increased Air Pressure on the Fron Welcome back Trig! Hmmm.. As mentioned earlier, with the spotty clouds, are some shots taken with full sun entire path of bullet, or are some taken with part of trajectory going through shade? Would this cause local differences in pressure...

    WHY WHY WHY

Re: WHY WHY WHY Later, Thanks for posting the link. I wonder what the flippers will think of this report. They were not enthusiastic to say the least after doing the tests last fall. The recoil was one issue, but the 70 lb weapon system weight was the biggest issue to them.

Range Report FGMM 175's vs M118LR

Re: FGMM 175's vs M118LR Luke, I have used FGMM occasionally in my Mk11 and SR-25 Match. I haven't had any issues with primers, but the brass is softer, and seems to get chewed up a little more than the 118LR. Scott

    Gunsmithing Melonite extending barrel life?

Re: Melonite extending barrel life? FWIW, We used Melonited barrels for several years in FCSA competition when we were shooting 12L14 Leadloy steel bullets. As mentioned above, the surface hardening allowed us to get upwards of 1000 rounds out of a barrel using the steel bullets. All...
