Why do people load so hot?

Remember that powders change over time as well. New production seldom matches what was produced in 1955. Also, older powders break down over time.

Why do people load so hot?

As a reloader for over 50 years I would guess that this started due to flat trajectory helping get hits at longer and unknown ranges. Prior to LRF’s and scopes that could accurately be dialed for range a 400 yard hunting shot was considered very long range. So, limits were pushed to make up for...

When do you say, well that is as good as it is going to shoot.

There is nothing inherently inaccurate about the Springfield 1903. Any issues would be related to bedding or individual barrel condition I would think.

Is the .17HMR really much better than .22LR for varmints?

I found the 17 HMR to be fun but lacking energy on coyotes, badgers etc beyond 100 yards. Better than .22 LR of course. Once I step up from .22 LR my next stop is normally .204. I do still have a .22 magnum but find less use for it last few years.

    ELEY BC

This is my data for Eley Tenex and Eley match both with the EPS bullet. I’ve worked on and verified it over 10 years. It’s correct in my 28” Winchester 52’s. Way off in my 24” 52’s. I’ve had 3 Unertls fitted with custom reticules for this data and windage dots at 100 and 200 yards. I’ve found no...

    CCI pistol match

I don’t agree that groups lie. Zero shift is a separate issue. Caused by environmental changes or fundamental errors. My rifles maintain zero for years on end.
