Quick Shot Challenge: What’s the dumbest shooting myth you’ve heard?

Quiggly Ford is the best scope ever built. (And I can bench press 400#)

    M1917 vs M1903

I think either was accurate enough for the iron sights. The P17 stock was not conducive to good accuracy. Springfield trigger was better in the examples I shot.

    M1917 vs M1903

Forgot to mention the cock on closing of the p17 was never popular though it could be changed. The extractor was weak. That rear sight and metal around it. It was just never seen as better than much of anything.

    What is a Budget Optic

One thing that stands out to me on most threads is the general placement of features over quality. Fluff over substance. Once you insist on exotic features and prioritize price over quality you have built your own trap.

    300 yard consistency

I would first talk to the top rimfire gunsmiths listed above. See what they are getting for 300 yard accuracy. See if they will let you shoot one of their rigs. Then weigh the difference between what you are currently getting, if any, and decide cost/value relationship.

What is it Worth? Older Leupold Mark 4 10x

I will not comment regarding the value. I would like to share my thoughts regarding the sell/keep line of thought. At one time I was what would be called a hoarder by many I am sure. I had gun/shooting related gear stored in various locations and much of it was forgotten or out of mind. This was...

    Look what Maggot just found.

The barrel weight and balance, along with the trigger really allows good offhand shooting. The micro groove barrels are very accurate. Overall a great woods rifle far above most others.

    Look what Maggot just found.

Friends dad had one from the 1950’s. I was always impressed with it. Shot great offhand. Great trigger. Very accurate. I made several memorable shots with it. No idea why I never bought one.

    Gunsmith for 1911 work?

When the dust settles you will have been better off just buying the gun set up like you want and keeping or selling yours. Franken 1911’s sell for pennies.

    M1917 vs M1903

Before the days of mass media saturation most shooters got their information from the American Rifleman. The Springfield was raved upon monthly and the P17 was seldom mentioned in a positive light. AR at the time was very influential for most hunters and shooters.

    M1917 vs M1903

The Eddeystone two grove barrels, clunky appearance did not help its popularity.

    New .22 actions still coming?

You mention money, spend, value etc over 25 times in three post. Your lone comment regarding accuracy is “good enough” Pretty much sums up your focus to me.
